    A former Cornwall Councillor is calling for changes to planning policy to reduce the risk of contamination to local rivers from new developments.

    Harry Blakey says too many new homes are being built too quickly without the necessary drainage and sewage works.

    South West Water and Cornwall Council say this is not the case but Mr Blakey says the Red River near Hayle is suffering.

    With snow on Dartmoor, the park authority has issued advice for people planning to go there.

    A spokesman said: "Whilst it is understandable that members of the public want to enjoy wintry conditions on Dartmoor, we are asking that a thought is spared for those whose daily lives and work can be severely affected by irresponsible behaviour during periods of snowfall."

    A Devon man, who was shot in the head during an armed robbery in the Caribbean has lost his sight.

    Chris Tester intervened when his parents were being threatened with a gun at their cafe in Antigua on Christmas Day. He's currently being treated at Plymouth's Derriford Hospital.

    His family are hoping any brain damage he suffers will be minimal.

    A crowdfunding site, which helped raise funds to bring him home, has already reached £100,000

    Engineers will assess the damage caused to a house after a tree fell on its roof.

    It happened overnight in strong winds in Falmouth.

    Emergency services were called to Melvill Road shortly before 03:00. No-one was trapped or injured.

    Major roadworks on Tavistock Road in Plymouth have been suspended for the time being after the discovery of more World War Two grenades.

    Ten were found on Tuesday afternoon and a further 14 grenades were removed yesterday.

    The city council said no more excavation work will take place until it's been established that the site is safe for motorists and workers.

    Three men from Cornwall are expected to appear before magistrates today charged with the murder of 31-year-old Stephen Bull. 

    Mr Bull's body was found in a park in St Austell on Wednesday morning. 

    Three local men, all in their 20s, are expected to appear at Bodmin Magistrates' Court this morning.
