    The Met Office, external has issued a fog warning for drivers in the South West.

    It said areas of freezing fog, some dense, added to icy stretches on roads and pavements could make driving conditions difficult, resulting in journeys taking longer than usual with possible delays to air travel.

    A Syrian refugee family could be homed in Bideford after a community group's plans were supported by the local council.

    The group, set up by five local churches, has so far raised £10,000 to help sponsor a refugee family.

    Torridge District Council, external voted to support the application to the Home Office by 23 votes to five.

    Forty-five firefighters tackled the blaze in Dracena Avenue.

    Firefighters were alerted to the blaze at the derelict Four Winds Inn just after 23:00 last night.

    Crews from Falmouth, Truro, Tolvaddon, St Just and Helston worked throughout the night to get the blaze under control. One crew remains at the site monitoring hotspots.

    One of Devon's air ambulances has been targeted by a laser just weeks after night flights were introduced.

    Devon and Cornwall Police said the air ambulance was on its way to Holsworthy to help an elderly lady who had fallen when it was hit by a green laser.

    Rob Mackie, the Devon Air Ambulance Trust's safety manager, said the flight could have been aborted if crew members were temporarily blinded.

    He said while handheld lasers were not illegal,the ease of which "military-strength" lasers could be obtained on the internet has led to a call by the British Airline Pilots Association to have them classed as offensive weapons.

    "Lasers can cause a catastrophic blinding light and can quite easily damage a pilot or crew members eyes or distract the pilot enough to cause an accident," he said.

    Firefighters remain at the scene of a major fire in Cornwall to monitor hotspots and make sure the blaze is fully extinguished.

    Forty-five firefighters worked through the night to bring the blaze at the derelict Four Winds Inn in Falmouth under control. 

    A fire investigation officer is due to examine the site today.

    A fire investigation officer will visit the Four Winds Inn in Falmouth this morning after a major fire overnight.

    The pub, which ran for more than 40 years, has been closed since January 2016.

    A planning application was put forward over the summer to demolish the pub and turn it into accommodation for 200 students.

    Flames at a fire in Falmouth were reported to be 30ft high, according to an eyewitness at the scene.

    Kevin Fudge took pictures of the blaze at the Four Winds Inn overnight.

    By 04:00 this morning the incident was scaled back, with one crew remaining on site to monitor hotspots.

    A fire investigation officer is due to examine the site today. No-one was injured in the blaze.
