    People with life experience and a sense of compassion are being asked to volunteer at Cornwall's Coroners Court. 

    They'll be asked to support people who have to sit through an inquiry into the death of a friend or loved one. 

    No formal qualifications are needed and training will be given. Rob Skinner is the service coordinator - he says it's a vital service for people who can be confused and upset.

    Plans for a spaceport at Cornwall Airport Newquay have moved a step closer as the government launches a £10m scheme to support applications.

    Newquay is among several sites in the UK bidding to be able to launch horizontal spacecraft by 2020.

    Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership is bidding for a licence which would allow conventional take off space planes to deliver satellites into orbit.

    Newquay is up against five other sites - four in Scotland and one in West Wales.

    New research out today reveals that most councils in the South West say they will have to raise council tax and charge more for services because they don't think the government will give them enough in the next financial year.

    Councils are in the process of deciding budgets, but information from the latest State of Local Government Finance Survey found that 84% of councils across the country think the current "needs assessment formula" is not fit for purpose.

    Jonathan Carr-West, chief executive of the Local Government Information Unit, said: "Local government finances across the country are in a dire state."

    A Devon pet food company is to increase its workforce by more than a quarter with the building of a new factory.

    Forthglade is moving from Winkleigh, in mid Devon, to nearby Okehampton, creating about 25 jobs and safeguarding 80 more.

    The company makes natural pet food products and says increasing demand has prompted its expansion.  

    Building work on the new factory is due to start in the spring.

    Almost two thirds of children in Devon will lose out under government proposals to change the way schools are funded, according to Devon County Council. 

    New analysis by the county's education chief maintains that almost 62% of pupils will be taught in schools which will have their money cut. 

    It comes as teaching unions warn that the new proposed funding formula coupled with rising costs, could lead to the region's schools budgets being cut by more than £105m within the next three years. 

    The government says the new formula will make the system fairer.
