  1. Going the extra Milo to find the Tesco catpublished at 14:01 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2017

    BBC Local Live, in Penzance

He was the cheeky kitty who didn't care where he lay, and was loved by shoppers and store staff.

Milo, the Penzance Tesco cat - who died over the weekend - would be often seen wandering around the superstore's car park, occasionally jumping into someone's open car boot or on a trolley for a quick look around.

Most frequently the 18-month-old local social media star would be just inside the foyer in the warm, often lying on top of what he thought looked comfortable: the shop's free magazine stand, gardening products (he's pictured here on top of packs of dahlia bulbs), or even among bottles of car anti-freeze or de-icer.

On another occasion I know of, he was actually inside the shop - just inside - lying under the delightful warm blast of the hot air conditioning fan.

His death has upset staff and shoppers, with staff sending his family a card and flowers. And I know many will miss rooting around the foyer displays just to smile at where he had taken up temporary residence at that moment.

  2. Paediatrician shared and had child sex imagespublished at 13:31 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2017

    Hamish Marshall
    BBC Spotlight

Paediatrician Jonathan Walsh, 47, has been jailed for three years for having and sharing child sex images.

As he jailed Walsh, Judge Geoffrey Mercer said: "To state that your sexual interest in children which underlines these offences causes concern with regard to the position you held is a massive understatement.

"An aggravating feature in this case is the extreme nature of the images."

"You went to considerable lengths that disguise what you were doing."

    Jonathan Walsh

In mitigation, the court was told that Walsh had "sincere regret for having committed the offences".

These were "non contact" offences and he is "aware that these are real children and harm is indirectly caused to them by his viewing of the images".

Frankie Davies had gone to Boscastle to do some shopping when she fell on the street and didn't have any mobile signal to call for help.

She says there was nobody around as the weather was bad: "I was in a lot of pain, so just laid there getting my breath, unable to move hoping things would improve."

Fortunately a man was watching a live webcam in Worcester and phoned his mother who lives in Boscastle. She was able to get down and assist Frankie, and take her to her house.

She later went to the Minor Injuries Unit in Bodmin for treatment and said: "I will never forget the kindness of Becky and Paul to a stranger, or the incredible luck of being spotted on the webcam."

  8. New signs on Dartmoor tackle animal deathspublished at 12:04 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2017

New interactive road signs are being introduced in parts of Dartmoor this week to try and reduce the increasing number of animals being killed by traffic.

The signs warn drivers if they are exceeding the 40mph speed limit across Dartmoor.

Karla McKechnie, Dartmoor Livestock Protection Officer, recorded 188 traffic accidents involving animals during 2016, nearly double the 2015 figure.

She said: "160 animals were killed and 28 seriously injured on the unfenced roads. The amount of animal suffering is enormous with 32 ponies, 5 cows and 123 sheep dying at the roadside from horrific injuries.

"My priority at accidents is to put fatally injured animals out of their suffering. Then I have time to consider why the animals were hit and usually it is obvious from the appalling injuries and damage to the vehicle that speed played a big part."
