Well that's a day of elections over with large amounts of coffee and the occasional bit of chocolate duly dispatched.

We've seen a straight Conservative victory in Devon and the Conservatives winning the most seats in Cornwall but without the numbers to take overall control.

The Tories are the largest group with 46 seats but they would need need 62 seats to have overall control of Cornwall Council.

They could form a minority administration or there could be deals to be done.

Over the weekend there will be talks going on between all the main parties to decide who is going to be in charge for the next four years.

The Conservative victory in Cornwall is "a strong endorsement for Theresa May" according to Lelant and Carbis Bay councillor Linda Taylor.

She said success for 46 Tory candidates out of 122 seats being contested was also an endorsement for the Cornish Conservative candidates in the General Election.

She added: "We are the largest party and it will be up to the leadership of the Conservative group to sit down and make their decisions about the way forward."

Two Cornwall communities have voted to ban new-build second homes.

The parishes of St Minver, which includes second home hot-spot Rock, and Rame Peninsular approved the referendum to reserve new homes for full-time residents. 

It follows a vote in St Ives last year which also approved the same restrictions in a bid to curb house price rises and help local home-buyers.

That move was challenged in the High Court by a developer but the referendum result was upheld.

The surge that had been hoped for by Liberal Democrat supporters did not materialise on the day.

The Liberal Democrats, who have been in charge of the authority in coalition with the Independents, took 37 seats compared to 46 for the Conservatives.

Adam Paynter, leader of the Liberal Democrats, said: "It will be up to the Conservatives to form the administration."

A motorcyclist has been seriously injured in a crash with a car on the road between Avonwick and Totnes, police say. 

Officers said, external the rider was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth by air ambulance after the crash next to Totnes Christmas Trees on Higher Plymouth Road, Totnes, at about 09:00. The female driver of the car sustained minor injuries.

Police have appealed for the driver of a white van travelling from Avonwick to Totnes between 08:45 to 09:00 who may be a "vital witness" to come forward.

The Conservatives have won the most seats in the Cornwall Council elections, results show, external. 

The Tories have 46 out of the 122 seats up for grabs this week, with their nearest rivals being the Liberal Democrats with 37 seats, followed by 30 Independent councillors. 

Labour have five seats and Mebyon Kernow four.

The unitary authority's remaining 123rd seat, Bodmin St Petroc, will be contested at a later date. It was delayed following the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Steve Rogerson.

Although the Tories have the most seats, they do not have overall control of the council.

The council had been led by a coalition of Liberal Democrats and Independents since 2013.

A robber has stolen £200 to £300 worth of cash and goods after threatening staff and demanding money, tobacco and cigarettes while carrying a "machete-type knife" in a shop in Plymouth, police say, external.

The Premier Store on Regent Street in the Greenbank area was robbed at about 19:45 on Thursday.

The man was described as 5ft 10in to 6ft tall, of medium build, and wearing a balaclava but "appeared to have some kind of brown facial hair". He also had a local accent.

Thousands of youngsters will be setting up camp near Okehampton today ahead of this weekend's Ten Tors challenge. 

Teams from all over the country are arriving in Devon today for the event, which is organised by the Army and sees teenagers taking on the elements on Dartmoor during treks of 35, 45 or 55 miles over two days. 

The event starts at 07:00 on Saturday.

Voters have given the Conservatives another four years in charge at Devon County Council.

The Conservatives won 42 of the 60 seats, four more than they won at the last elections in 2013. They have been in control of the county council since wrestling it from the Liberal Democrats in 1989.

Labour and the Liberal Democrats have seven seats each, Independents have three and the Green Party has one with UKIP losing all its seats.

Two men have been arrested after armed police stop-checked a vehicle in Cornwall and found a "large amount of controlled drugs" including what was believed to be cocaine.

Police said the vehicle was stopped on the A30 at Roche that was "believed to be heading into Newquay" on Thursday afternoon.

Two men from Newquay, aged 26 and 24 years, were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs, and a search of a property used by the men found suspected drugs and a large amount of cash, officers added. 

The two were later released under investigation while further enquiries were being conducted into the "substantial" seizure, police said.

The Tories have 41 out of the 122 seats up for grabs, with their nearest rivals being the Liberal Democrats with 35 seats, followed by 26 Independent councillors. 

Labour have five seats and Mebyon Kernow four.

A child has been knocked down on a road in Camborne.

South Terrace is closed in both directions between Trevu Road and Wesley Street due to the collision.

Police said the road may be shut for some time. The child's condition is not known.

An 18-year-old cat has been found with burns and injuries more than two-and-a-half miles from her home in Torbay after what is thought to have been a "shocking and upsetting" deliberate attack, the RSPCA says.

The animal welfare charity said Spook was discovered injured with burns to her face, foot and around her bottom near Goodrington Beach on Tuesday. 

Insp Beccy Wadey said: "It is hard to imagine why anyone would want to deliberately hurt an animal in this horrific and callous way." 

Spook's owner said his family was "devastated" by what had happened and appealed to for any information to help an investigation which could result in a prosecution.

The Conservatives in Devon have seen an increase their vote in the Devon County Council elections of more than 10%, while UKIP has seen a drop of nearly 20%.

The changes include:

• Conservatives: +10.1%, 
• Liberal Democrats: +5.4%
• Labour: +1.8%  
• Green: -0.5%
• UKIP: -18.1%

The Conservatives and Liberal Democrats are currently a running a tight race as to who will have the most seats on Cornwall Council, with the Tories on 33, just ahead of the Liberal Democrats with 30.

Independent councillors have just reached the 20s, with 21 seats held.

Labour has five seats and Mebyon Kernow three.

Former Cornwall Council leader John Pollard has held his Hayle North seat but announced he won't be running to lead the authority again.
