    Winds have been gradually strengthening with gales developing around exposed coasts through the day. However, strong east, or north-easterly winds are due to gradually ease during the night to become light or moderate, away from the south coast by morning.

    A police officer who admitted downloading child abuse images is likely to be dismissed from the force, a court heard.

    Exeter-based PC Jonathan Fulcher, who is currently suspended, admitted three counts of making indecent images of children, one of possessing ammunition without a certificate, and one of possession of a noxious pava spray.

    Fulcher, 34, of High Road, Crediton, denied attempting to cause a child to watch him perform a sexual act, but prosecutors are considering whether to proceed with the charge.

    Exeter Crown Court heard that four of the images were of the highest category, which shows children having sex with adults. He will be sentenced at a later date.

    The Liberal Democrats are ahead in Cornwall with 18 seats against 15 wins for the Conservatives.

    Labour and Mebyon Kernow have picked up three seats each with the Independents taking nine seats so far, according to Cornwall Council, external.

    Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats in Cornwall have won four seats each in the local elections so far.

    The Tories' victories include taking Camborne Treslothan from Labour, Liskeard North from the Independents and St Blazey from the Liberal Democrats. They have also gained St Stephen in Brannel.

    The Liberal Democrats have Bodmin St Leonard, Newquay Central, St Austell Bethel and Wadebridge East.

    Meanwhile. Mebyon Kernow have held Callington, their second seat. Independent Mark Kaczmarek has taken Carharrack, Gwennap & St Day.
