Cornwall Council has finally chosen a new leader - Adam Paynter of the Liberal Democrats.
Mr Paynter's first move was to shelve a controversial £500,000 Capital of Culture bid for Truro.
Mr Paynter told the full council meeting today: "I will act with honesty and integrity. I will build on the ambition of the previous Council to close the gap for residents - to improve their life opportunities."
Image source, Cornwall CouncilPolice are appealing for witnesses after a "serious collision" in South Molton which left three people with injuries, one of them life-threatening.
Emergency services were called after a white Ford Transit van was involved in a head-on crash with a removal truck on the A361 at Moortown Cross at about 12:30 on Monday.
The van driver, a 61-year-old man from Barnstaple, had to be removed from the vehicle by the fire service. He sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Derriford Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition, police said.
The driver of the Scania Pantechnicon truck, a 31-year-old man from Plymouth, was also removed by the fire service. He sustained a serious arm injury and was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
His passenger, a 55-year-old man also from Plymouth, received minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.The road was closed for nine hours while officers carried out a forensic examination of the scene.

A woman from Truro caught up in the devastating attack on the Manchester Arena last night said she and her family were still in shock.
The bomb killed 22 people and injured 59.
Tanya Blackman from Truro was at the Arian Grande concert with her brother, sister and two nieces aged eight and ten.
She said: "We were very lucky. It's only hitting us now we've left quite how close that was for us."
The Post Office in Camelford will shut and reopen in a hardware store, it's been confirmed.
Two tills will be available at Stephens Home Hardware. The Post Office said it will mean longer opening hours and the service will be secured for the future.

Strong security is in place at high-profile sports and entertainment venues who have stressed that safety is of "paramount importance".
Wembley Stadium officials said there will be "an enhanced security operation for all upcoming events". Officials for the Wimbledon tennis Grand Slam, which is due to start in south-west London on 3 July, have been working with the police to bolster security measures.
Wembley Stadium is set to host the FA Cup final between Arsenal and Chelsea on Saturday, the League Two play-off final between Blackpool and Exeter on Sunday and the Championship play-off final between Huddersfield and Reading on Monday.

People living in Devon and Cornwall are being urged by police to remain alert and vigilant following the attack in Manchester.
Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer said “The tragic events in Manchester are a timely reminder of the need to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity you may see.
“Although we have no information to suggest any specific risk to Devon, Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly, I would ask the public to keep alert and not alarmed, and to support us in keeping our region safe.
“If anyone sees anything suspicious relating to terrorism, they can report this to the Anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789321.
“The impact of last night’s events will be felt for some time and our condolences go to the families and friends of those who have died as well as those who have been injured as a result of the attack.
“Devon and Cornwall Police officers and staff are always aware of the dangers of such attacks, they remain thankfully rare."

Liberal Democrat Adam Paynter was elected in a secret ballot earlier today.
He will lead a joint administration with the Independent group, whose representative Julian German will be deputy leader.
Cllr Paynter said: "I will not be afraid to lead from the front when required although I will seek to build consensus on issues.
"I give you my commitment to work with all members irrespective of the party they represent and do my very best for Cornwall."

The leader of a gang of rogue builders who preyed on frail pensioners has been jailed for more than three years.
Johnny Carroll, 26, led a gang of workers who toured the south west and South Wales, quoting reasonable estimates but then bullying victims into paying thousands of pounds more.
In the space of 22 months he defrauded 21 pensioners out of £108,000, Exeter Crown Court heard.

The judge said his work had been "badly executed and vastly overpriced".
Fire crews were called to a man that was stuck in a car on the edge of a 20ft drop in Devon.
The man was told to stay in the vehicle at Whitegates in Combe Martin while officers used winches and lines to stabalise it, before he could leave the car.
Crews from Combe Martin, Ilfracombe and Barnstaple attended and the man was checked over by ambulance crews.

Despite being three years younger than his nearest rival, Toby Martyn from St Agnes is more than holding his own.
But the schoolboy has to juggle studying for his A levels with his trial riding which now takes him all over the world.

There were "far more children than adults" at the Ariane Grande concert hit by a terrorist attack at the Manchester Arena last night, according to a woman from Truro who was there with her family.
Tanya Blackman went to the concert with her sister Tamsyn Rowe, nieces Ruby and Honey and her brother Rich Blackman.
Image source, Tanya BlackmanShe told the BBC: "Children were crying but it was quite quiet and calm. No-one was pushing where we were.
"My brother held Ruby very tightly by the hand and Honey was holding on to both her mum and me and I tried to get my sister to take her as I thought they could move more quickly like that but she wouldn't let go.
"I still think we didn't realise how serious it was."
The family escaped uninjured and are now travelling back to Cornwall.
Security is being stepped up at Plymouth Pavilions, external following last night's terror attack in Manchester.
A pensioner was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash in Looe, police have said.
The "serious collision" involved two cars and happened on the A387 at Polperro Road on Friday at 12:20.
Police closed the road for four-and-a-half hours while a specialist forensic examination of the scene was carried out. The man, 78, was airlifted to Derriford Hospital.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
A father from Newquay who was at the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester where 22 people were killed in a suspected bomb attack, has been describing what he witnessed.
Jamie Elliot was at the Manchester Arena with his 15-year-old daughter Ronnie May.

"I just grabbed hold of my daughter and just shuffled her to the doors because we were scared of someone falling over and being trampled on."
He said they decided to leave to the right of where they were sitting because the girl to their left was putting on her shoes.
He added: "If we'd turned left and left the way we had come in, we would have been nearer to where it happened."
Emergency services and local authorities in Devon and Cornwall are flying flags at half-mast today, in respect to those affected by the Manchester attack.
Devon and Cornwall Police headquarters in Exeter, Truro City Hall and West Devon Borough Council are among those paying tribute in this way.

Twenty-two people, including an eight-year-old girl, have been killed and 59 injured in a suicide bombing at Manchester Arena, at the end of a concert by US singer Ariana Grande.
A man set off a homemade bomb in the foyer at 22:33 BST on Monday, in what Theresa May called a "sickening" act.
Armed police have arrested a 23-year-old man in Chorlton, south Manchester, in connection with the attack.
Saffie Roussos, 8, was a pupil at Tarleton Primary School, in Lancashire.

There have been four assaults on police officers in Newquay over the last three days, according to a senior inspector.
Police said a woman was arrested for assault yesterday. A man was also arrested after he threw blood from a bleeding hand at a PCSO on Fore Street. Both people were believed to have been drunk, police added.
There were also two assaults on Saturday, the force said.
Insp Dave Meredith said: "We have had four assaults on officers in Newquay in three days. Two officers were assaulted on Saturday and a Taser had to be deployed to restrain their assailant.
"These incidents are a remainder of the dangers faced by police in keeping our communities safe. It is sad that assaults on police are so common. Full welfare provisions have been made for the officers that were assaulted."
