A schoolgirl found hanged "should have been found within 20 minutes" but was actually missing for more than an hour and a half, an inquest has heard.

Dagmara Przybysz, 16, went to the toilet at Pool Academy, Redruth, at 12:14 BST on 17 May last year.

She was not found until 13:50 - despite being marked absent from a science lesson, which should have triggered an absent pupil procedure for her to be found within 20 minutes.

Vice Principal Lisette Neesham said she "can't explain" why Dagmara wasn't being looked for.

The procedure has been revised since the incident, she said.

The M5 at junction 27 has now has now re-opened southbound following an accident which closed the motorway southbound early this morning.

Long queues of traffic remain tailing back for around three miles adding around 30 minutes to journey times.

Paramedics tried for 20 minutes to save a girl found hanged in a school toilet, despite school staff making the decision not to perform CPR, an inquest has heard.

Paramedic Christopher Taylor, from South Western Ambulance Service, said Dagmara Przybysz was covered from head to toe with a white blanket when ambulance crews arrived at Pool Academy in Redruth.

Mr Taylor said their guidelines not to recusitate are very clear.

"When we got to Dagmara there was none of that evidence [that we shouldn't recusitate], he said."

Advanced life support was carried out for 20 minutes before it was decided to not continue.

The time of death was recorded as 14:31 on 17 May 2016.

A garden shed fire in Devon has been put out after it was started by a lightning strike.

Firefighters said, external they were called to the scene in Market Street, Yealmpton, at about 14:40 and damage to the structure "was kept to a minimum".

A paramedic said he "would have expected" a CPR attempt to have been made by school staff when a teenager was found hanged in a toilet cubicle.

Christopher Taylor attended the scene at Pool Academy in Redruth when 16-year-old Dagmara Przybysz was found.

School staff had decided it was "too late" to begin CPR despite being advised by a 999 call handler to begin recusitation until paramedics arrived.

When asked by Coroner Dr Emma Carlyon, Mr Taylor said: "I would have expected to find a defibrillator on scene and some attempt [to recusitate] made."

He added that if staff had begun CPR he didn't think the outcome would have been different.

Further study of the two skulls found in Totnes may include radiocarbon dating.

One skull was found in a plastic bag by workmen at the rear of the Budgens store and the other was found in an area "known to be used by the homeless".

Photos of the skulls were sent to the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification, at the University of Dundee, for analysis.

Police said the centre was only able to confirm the two skulls are human, one male, one female and they would need to have access to the skulls to work out a time since death, which may require radiocarbon dating.

Barrier repairs and resurfacing of a section of the M5 are under way after a truck overturned in the early hours of Tuesday.

Here's what we know so far:

• The tipper lorry overturned at Junction 27 of the M5 southbound, at Sampford Peverell, near Tiverton, at about 01:50.
• The vehicle was left on its side under a bridge
• The lorry damaged the central reservation and suffered a fuel spill, damaging the carriageway
• Its 23-year-old driver was treated for a head and arm injury and taken to hospital, ambulance staff said. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing
• The crash resulted in the southbound carriageway being closed, as well as lane three of the northbound carriageway, for a recovery operation
• The recovery of the lorry was described as "complicated" by police, saying that those involved with were having to deal with "machinery embedded in [the] central reservation".
• Police originally said the road was "likely to remain closed until 18:00 tonight" but Highways England said the closure was expected "to remain in place into this evening"

There were "no incidents of bullying" reported by a girl found hanged in a toilet at her school, an inquest has heard.

Dagmara Przybysz, 16, died at Pool Academy, Redruth on 17 May last year.

Vice Principal Lisette Neesham told the inquest that there was no record of Dagmara, or anyone on her behalf, reporting any incidents of bullying.

The stabbing of a man in Tiverton being treated as attempted murder may be drugs-related, police say.

Officers said, external the man, in his 30s, was wounded in his side in Bridge Street before 23:00 on Monday. He was taken to hospital in Plymouth.

Devon and Cornwall Police said it was believed the stabbing was an "isolated incident, possibly drugs-related, but officers cannot be certain", and have appealed for witnesses.

The force said: "Detectives have been unable to identify where the actual incident took place nor have they any description of a suspect. At this time the victim is not cooperating with the police."

All students at a school where a girl was found hanged in the toilet have been given iPads, an inquest has heard.

There have been numerous changes at Pool Academy in Redruth following the death of Dagmara Przybysz, 16, in May last year.

Assistant principal Lisette Neesham said all pupils have been issued with an iPad "with the student location search engaged".

If pupils do not have their iPad or it is not fully charged there is "a sanction".

Radios are no longer used between staff, and all staff have phones.

She also said there have been changes to the school's system of recording pupils absent from lessons and the procedure for looking for them.

It took an ambulance call handler more than five minutes to establish what had happened at a school where a teenage pupil was found hanged, an inquest heard.

A 999 call from Pool Academy, in Redruth came from reception rather than a member of staff who was present at the scene in one of the school's toilets.

Giving evidence at an inquest into the death of teenager Dagmara Przybysz, paramedic Christopher Rogers said there was "frustration" on the call as it was 5 minutes 38 seconds before the call handler was told what had happened.

There were also issues with phone signal between the school's reception and where the incident had taken place.

Mr Rogers said he returned to the school in the weeks after the incident to play them the 999 call and explain the frustration of the call handler in trying to get the information.

Anyone who cares for animals must be able to meet their needs, the RSPCA has warned, after a woman who kept 27 poodles in "squalor" was banned from owning dogs.

Sixty-nine-year-old Heather Green, 69, of Dockacre Road, Launceston, was found guilty at a hearing before magistrates on 12 July of three offences of causing unnecessary suffering, and one of failing to provide the dogs with a suitable environment.

She was sentenced to six weeks in jail, suspended for a year, fined £750 and ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.

RSPCA inspector Lewis Taylor, who investigated the case, said: "These dogs were kept in inadequate conditions and were sadly suffering as a result. We found 21 dogs squashed together in five metal cages, with six others running loose in just one room. It was a miserable existence and no way for animals to live."

He said anyone with animals must "provide them with the kind of life they deserve".

Cornish schools were all sent advice over how to make a 999 call after "frustration" over an incident in which a student was found hanged in a toilet.

Paramedics from South Western Ambulance Service (SWAS) were called to Pool Academy, Redruth, in May last year when 16-year-old Dagmara Przybysz was found.

But the 999 call came from the school's reception rather than at the scene, there were phone signal problems and advice for staff to begin CPR was not heeded.

Christopher Rogers, the named safeguarding professional for SWAS told an inquest into Dagmara's death that he met with the school and contacted Ofsted to find out the guidance currently in place.

As a result he created a document entitled 'Ringing 999 for an ambulance: Guide for Education' which was sent to all Cornwall schools in September.

When asked if he knew it had been implemented in schools, he said "I don't know. It has been sent."

Motorists are being warned to expect delays this weekend by the RAC as almost nine million vehicles embark on the start of the summer getaway nationally.

RAC traffic spokesman Rod Dennis warned that drivers would face "customary chaos" this weekend.

He said: "The very much-needed family summer holiday might begin stressfully as long tailbacks are inevitable, particularly in the South West on the M5, which is the main conduit to the beaches of Devon and Cornwall."

The RAC predicted that congestion hotspots in - as well as to and from - the region would include:

• M5 Almondsbury Interchange and from Bristol to Taunton
• A30 and A38 Exeter to Cornwall
• A303 Andover to Ilminster

The merger of two Devon councils could mean council tax bills for some, increasing by an extra £25 a year for three years.

South Hams and West Devon councils already share some services, but said a full merger would mean £500,000 in savings annually.

However, as part of joining forces, council tax bills needed to be the same across the two districts, those behind the proposals confirmed. It would mean some in the South Hams facing sharp rises in bills.

Councillors are discussing the proposed merger.

Two human skulls found in the Totnes area were wrapped in carrier bags and found half a mile apart.

The first skull was found by workmen behind an empty supermarket building in the town centre yesterday lunchtime. A few hours later, the second skull was found several hundred yards away, also in a carrier bag, but this time near an industrial estate on the banks of the River Dart.

Police said they don't know where the skulls came from, but they're not treating it as a criminal investigation at the moment. Both skulls are believed to be up to 100 years old.

Officers said more forensic analysis would be carried out as they investigated the matter further.
