Image source, Highways EnglandResidents unhappy with plans to dual the A30 between Chiverton Cross and Carland Cross have voiced their concerns at a public meeting.
Highways England announced its preferred route, external for the eight-mile stretch earlier this month. The project will cost £290m and it's hoped work will begin in the spring of 2020, with a timescale of up to three years.
Critics at the meeting in Perranporth last night said they were concerned about disturbance because of the works and how long construction could take, especially as two years of disruption had just finished with the recent dualling of the A30 at Temple, near Bodmin.
Cornwall Council Environment Liaison Officer Jeremy Edwards said the authority wanted to build on the success of completing the Temple dualling.
The plans will go through a further period consultation before a detailed planning application can be submitted.

West Devon Borough Council has approved holding a public consultation into plans to merge with neighbouring South Hams District Council.
The authorities say combining will "help address the combined £1.9m gap in finances brought about by successive reductions in central government funding since 2010".
The councils already share some services, a chief executive and other staff.
West Devon said that South Hams councillors were to consider the proposals on Thursday and, if they agreed, there would be a public consultation starting in early August.
However, the move could mean council tax bills for some in the South Hams increasing by an extra £25 a year for three years as its rates are lower.

An expert from Historic England is warning Plymouth's planners not to repeat the mistakes of their predecessors 50 years ago when they approved a large hotel near the Hoe.
Simon Hickman said the Quality Hotel, which has been demolished after it shut and was damaged by several arson attacks, was an eyesore in an iconic location and he feared it would be replaced with something much worse.
The 10-storey building on Cliff Road, was also previously labelled an "eyesore" by the council too.

The building, reported to be the oldest hotel in England and which had sections dating back to 1769, was destroyed by a major fire that also damaged other buildings in Cathedral Close last October.
Architects said a new facade would show a restored frontage, designed to stay as true as possible to the original.
Owner Andrew Brownsword added that iron work and stained glass windows would be restored, and surviving features preserved.
If approved, the work is expected to take 18 months to complete.

A free school in North Devon has been rated as inadequate by inspectors.
Ofsted found the Route 39 Academy in Higher Clovelly was failing in every category, including effectiveness of leadership, personal development and outcomes for pupils.
The report found Year 11 pupils at the state-funded facility were not entered for GCSEs "in breach of statutory requirements and the school’s own funding agreement".

The academy has been contacted for a comment.
We reported earlier there are more than 16,000 drivers in Cornwall over the age of 80, with almost 1,400 of those over 90.
The figures come from research by the University of Swansea and the BBC which says the number of people aged over 90 holding a driving licence in Britain has topped 100,000 for the first time.

A fierce war of words has led to accusations that the developer behind the new garden town of Sherford are reneging on promises to abide by strict design rules.
The Prince's Foundation says developer the Sherford Consortium wants to make significant changes to the way the town on the edge of Plymouth is built.
The consortium said this was not true and planned changes were minor.
The new town was initially, external due to contain 5,500 new homes, as well as schools, businesses and community facilities.

National League side Torquay have signed former New Zealand international forward Rory Fallon on non-contract terms after a trial at the club.
The 35-year-old left his role as player-assistant manager of National League South's Truro City by mutual consent last December.
Fallon, who scored six goals in 23 New Zealand appearances, has not played a competitive match since March 2016.
The signing completes player-manager Kevin Nicholson's search for a striker.

A Royal Marine with links to dissident republicanism made 14 pipe bombs - four of which were deployed in Northern Ireland, a court heard.
Ciaran Maxwell, 31, compiled a library of terrorism documents, bought chemicals and components and went on to manufacture explosives and devices, which he stashed in purpose-built hides in England and Northern Ireland. The 31-year-old, of Exminster in Devon, also had maps, plans and lists of potential targets for a terrorist attack - as well as images of an adapted Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) pass card and a PSNI uniform.
Image source, .The court heard terrorist documents and bomb-making guides, including the Irish Republican Army "Green Book", were found on Maxwell's media devices, along with potential targets for terrorism.
Police found satellite map images of power stations in Northern Ireland and Larne police station with a "blast radius put on top of it". There were also street maps of military barracks, a council building and an "Orange hall", as well as details of the addresses of HMRC offices in Northern Ireland, the Northern Ireland Office in Westminster and London's NCA headquarters, the court heard.
Other files included the names and contact details of PSNI officers and a police/MI5 officer in the UK, the court heard. Mr Whittam said: "Whether I was to describe it as attack planning or preparation, it has that hallmark."
One of Teignmouth's best known buildings has been severely damaged by fire.
Four fire crews were called to the Beachcomber Cafe on the Promenade at 22:45 last night.
It's carnival week in the town and the police had to control crowds that had gathered to watch the drama unfold.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service is yet to release the cause of the blaze.
About 170 jobs are at risk at two different firms in Devon.
A Newton Abbot company which manufactures insulated glass is set to close with the loss of 120 jobs. DB Glass sent letters to its workforce last week explaining that it was entering a 45-day consultation process with the Unite union reps.
DB Glass is the Devon trading name for Specialist Building Products Ltd based in Solihull who said it would be inappropriate to comment on the closure plans during the consultation period.
Meanwhile, Devon Sweet Factory in Crediton has gone into administration with the loss of 52 jobs. Formerly known as Crediton Confectionery, the company called in administrators earlier this month, days after the staff were made redundant.
The administrators RSM Restructuring said it was optimistic a buyer would be found for the sweet factory which makes bonbons and fudge under the Tuckers and Bristows brands. RSM said the company blamed "unforeseen working capital pressure" for the decision to cease trading.

The 25-year-old previously played in the top flight with Worcester Warriors, and ended last season with the Southern Kings in Super Rugby.
Van der Sluys started just one competitive match for the Warriors and returned to South Africa in March.
