    Great Western Railway which runs train services to Cornwall and Devon from London has told us no delays are expected into the two counties as a result of a Penzance train derailing at Paddington on Sunday.

    A spokesman said a platform at Paddington is temporarily out of action but that should not affect journey times for South West passengers.

    A 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted on-board a train from Newquay after the Boardmasters Festival, police have said.

    The victim was approached by a man who made advances and "started tickling" her before trying to take her phone, according to a police spokesperson.

    She moved and appealed to another man for help but he then sexually assaulted her by "kissing her and touching her and himself inappropriately".

    It happened on a Great Western Railway service to Plymouth just before 21:00 on Saturday 12 August.

    The first offender is described as having pale skin, ginger hair and was wearing a "novelty shark hat".

    The second offender had mousey hair, pronounced sideburns and gave his name as Lance, officers said.

    The RNLI have warned a tourist is lucky to be alive after getting stuck in a rip current off Cornwall while lifeguards were off duty.

    RNLI Lifeguard, Cam Wickins said he was just coming on shift at Treyarnon Bay when he heard screams and members of the public ran to him saying a man was drowning.

    He says he paddled out 200 metres on a rescue board and found the man's head was only just above water.

    "Another five or ten minutes and he'd have been a gonner," he said.

    The charity has again stressed that people should not swim in the sea outside of lifeguard patrol hours.

    An owl called Boo Boo from Cornwall has had to have her legs bandaged as she suffers from a rare disorder.

    The baby eagle owl cannot support her own weight so cannot fly as she would not be able to land safely.

    She is having ongoing treatment and will have to live in specially adapted accommodation at her home at Hendra Park for the rest of her life.

    Senara Collings, Boo Boo's owner, said: "We may possibly even have to pad the walls and put security things in to stop wild animals like rats getting in."

    A 62-year man has died after the car he was driving careered over a roadside barrier, through trees and ended up overturned in a field.

    Police are appealing for witnesses to the fatal crash in Okehampton on Saturday night.

    Emergency services were called at 10.50pm after the silver Ford Focus left the carriageway on the B3260 where it meets the A30 eastbound at Meldon.

    A female passenger, 52, was treated for minor injuries, officers said.

    If you're in Cornwall today, you may get the chance to see a partial eclipse. Astronomers say the further South West you are the better your chances.

    The last major partial eclipse visible in the South West was in March 2015.

    Today's event will see the sun covered by about 10% and is due to happen at about 19:00 this evening.

    The best view will be seen as the sun begins to set over the sea at Land's End.

    Across the Atlantic, more than seven million people in the US are expected to witness the first total solar eclipse to cross the North American continent from ocean to ocean since 1918.

    Police say a 25-year-old holidaymaker has been found safe and well after a major search was launched across North Devon.

    Officers started searching for the man on Monday morning after he was last seen on Sunday night in Croyde.

    Both Ilfracombe and Appledore lifeboats were launched and coastguard teams from Bideford, Mortehoe, Ilfracombe and Croyde were involved.

    Travellers have been sharing their favourite 'coming home' landmarks with the BBC.

    One is Cookworthy Knapp at Lifton by the A30 on the approach to Cornwall from Devon, known to some locally as the "coming home trees".

    "They are so dramatically placed on the hill commanding attention," she said.

    A beach where a man died after getting caught in a rip current has "unpredictable currents at the moment" the RNLI has said.

    Oneil Din, 27, from Coventry, got caught in a current and died at Crantock beach, Cornwall on 15 August.

    The Duchy of Cornwall was warned of the risk of a "potentially fatal situation" at the beach, which it owns, ahead of the death.

    RNLI lifeguard supervisor John Steadman said after the recent death: "Crantock beach has some unpredictable currents at the moment due to the topography of the beach constantly changing."

    The duchy, which has land in 23 counties and funds the activities of the Prince of Wales, expressed its condolences.

    Dawn Pascoe, from Plymouth, is described as white, 5ft 11in, stocky with light brown bobbed hair.

    She was last seen driving her blue BMW on the A386 heading towards Yelverton.
