The official numbers for the bid to break the record number of pirates in one place have been released.
The total number was 10,574 - well short of the 14,231 needed to enter the world record books.
Organiser Andy Hazlehurst said he was surprised they were 3,657 short.
He said: "To those of us who were there at the count, we could not believe it ourselves.
"We recounted twice. The first time we did it electronically. The second time we went back to the old fashioned way of counting stubs. Literally nobody could believe we hadn't got it."
Two years ago they were just 77 pirates short.
Mr Hazlehurst confirmed organisers would be back for another attempt next year.
And of course you know that "What ought we to do?" is the title of one of the songs in Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance.

A dog repeatedly beaten by its owner was left with three fractured teeth.
Ivan Zhelyzakov, 36, of Lostwithiel Road, Bodmin, was convicted of kicking, punching and stamping on the paws of his labrador, Rex, on three separate occasions in January, February and March.
At Zhelyzakov's trial today, a vet told Bodmin magistrates the dog had three fractured incisors and his injuries were not consistent with chewing stones - the explanation offered by the defendant.
Zhelyzakov was given a 20-week sentence suspended for one year. He was ordered to pay £1,000 costs and banned from keeping animals.
There's been an angry response to a story about parking machines not working at a busy Cornish beach over the bank holiday weekend.
People have reported that enforcement officers were telling people to pay by phone or online, but many couldn't get a signal.
Cornwall Council said no parking tickets were issued to people using the car park.

A man who kicked and punched his dog has been banned from keeping animals.
Ivan Zhelyzakov, 36, from Lostwithiel Road, Bodmin, also stamped on the paws of his labrador, Rex.
Zhelyzakov was found guilty of three offences of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal by magistrates at Bodmin.
He was disqualified from keeping animals and sentenced to 20 weeks in prison suspended for a year. He was also ordered to pay £1,000 costs.
Operators of the iconic horse and carriage rides at Cockington Village in Torquay are appealing for information, external after one of their horses was attacked by a dog while on a tour around the village last week.
Two care homes in Plymouth have been given the worst rating after visits by the Care Quality Commission.
The Meadowside and St Francis Care Centre (pictured) and the Mount Care Home in Plymouth were both put into special measures.

A four-year-old boy has died after being discovered in a swimming pool at anactivity centre, police said.
The boy was found after being reported missing at Knapp House Activity Centre in Northam, Bideford, at 14:55 on Monday.
Devon and Cornwall Police are investigating the circumstances and the death is currently being treated as unexplained.
South Western Ambulance Service said two rapid response vehicles and two ambulances attended the incident after being called at 15:30.
Knapp House Activity Centre, which was established in 1982, is a family-run business offering a range of activities on site and nearby.

Ali said he ran away to the UK after being tortured by his father and kept locked in a shed.
He has been in the UK in foster care with John Stokes in Kingswood, Bristol, since 2015 and is now an apprentice to star chef Simon Hulstone, who runs The Elephant restaurant in Torquay, Devon.
The Home Office said now he is 18 he must return home and he has not shown he faces a real risk if he goes back.

A 42-year-old man was assaulted by three men in Plymouth on Tuesday 15 August.

A 32-year-old man was found lying on a verge in Barnstaple with serious internal injuries on Sunday morning.
Devon and Cornwall Police said he was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where he was "diagnosed as having serious internal injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle or being assaulted".
Officers said were called at 06:45 to Eastern Avenue, and believed he was dropped off in a taxi on Long Meadow Drive at 04:45.
They said he was local, and described him as being of slim build, about 5ft 10ins tall, with a beard and dark spiky hair.

A four-year-old boy found dead at an activity centre in north Devon "drowned in the swimming pool", according to the people who run the centre.
Police were called to Knapp House near Northam shortly before 15:00 on Monday to reports of a missing boy. His body was later found in the pool.
The venue was staging an event organised by the Devon Narcotics Anonymous organisation.
Knapp House has issued a statement which offered its "deepest sympathies" to the boy's family and friends.
It said: "The group had the use of the pool on a self-supervised basis for recreational use - it was not part of the planned activity program that we provide."

Cornwall Council says it has recently carried out a review into its provision of special education needs after it paid out £165,000 to a man on the autism spectrum who claimed to have suffered from educational neglect.
Andrew Evans, from Par, settled out of court with the authority, having claimed his own Special Education Needs and Disability Statement was never acted upon while a pupil at Fowey Primary School in 2006 and 2007.
The council also said it had a young person's autism strategy.
Fowey Primary School said it didn't comment on individual, historic cases.
