    Bathing is safe again at a beach in Teignmouth after a suspected sewage spill pollution incident.

    Warning signs were put up earlier at Holcombe Beach by Teignbridge District Council.

    The authority said: "On the advice of the Environment Agency, warning signs have now been removed from Holcombe beach and the water is safe for bathing again."

    The Environment Agency said it understood the pollution was due to a sewage spill and it was investigating.

    A hedgehog thought to have been doused with lighter fluid and left to die in a park has been described as "very distressing" by the RSPCA.

    The female animal was found in a puddle on Sunday morning in Jubilee Park with disposable lighters strewn around. She was taken to vets but they could not save the animal and she died later that morning.

    The RSPCA said: "It is very distressing to think that people could take pleasure in causing such horrific injuries to a defenceless animal and heartbreaking to hear the hedgehog has sadly died as a result."

    The charity is investigating the incident.

    Devon and Cornwall Police said officers from its wildlife crime team were investigating.

    Two men swept away off north Cornwall were among a group of three people fishing, coastguards say.

    The pair were swept into the sea west of Treyarnon Bay, near Padstow, on Monday afternoon.

    A 21-year-old man was confirmed dead after being rescued and taken to hospital after a search operation was launched. A search for the second man has been stood down.

    James Instance (pictured), of Falmouth Coastguard, said emergency services received "a number of 999 calls", including one from the third member of the angling group when the two were "swept away on an incoming tide".

    He said the weather was "not really rough" but there was a "significant swell in the area which made searching conditions very challenging".

    A trawler has grounded at the entrance to the Camel Estuary.

    The three-man crew was assisted by the Rock lifeboat and safely brought ashore but the boat has been left on the beach near Daymer Bay, coastguards said.

    It is understood it is hoped the vessel can be refloated when the tide comes in.

    This lucky cat may have used some of his nine lives up after he spent almost a week hiding in the undercarriage of a tourist bus which travelled all over England.

    Axel was found in Windermere after taking a journey from Torquay and up to London and Birmingham before ending in Cumbria.

    "The bus driver had been wondering what the squeak was since leaving Torquay," said Matthew Stables, led vet at the Oakhill practice, where the cat is now being cared for.

    The vets' practice has put the story on social media, external in the hope of tracing the owners.

    South West Water says some properties in the Helston and in The Lizard affected by a burst main have had supplies restored and staff were "continuing to work to restore all supplies as quickly as possible".

    The announcement , externalfollows a "significant burst on the trunk main" earlier.

    The utility added: "However when supplies return, some customers may experience discoloured water and we are flushing our mains to clear through the supply."

    Dogs, dementia and gardening might sound like an unusual combination, but all three are being combined as part of a special project in north Devon.

    The Dogs Trust in Ilfracombe and Age UK Devon have launched Digging with Dogs to help people living with the early stages of dementia.

    Both gardening and spending time with dogs could benefit those living with the condition, those involved in the project said.

    The search for a missing man who was swept into the sea off north Cornwall has been called off.

    Two males, believed to be from the same family, went into the water west of Treyarnon Bay, near Padstow, on Monday afternoon. The pair were believed to be fishing.

    A 21-year-old man was confirmed dead after being rescued and taken to hospital.

    A search last night for the second male was stood down before resuming at about 07:00, with coastguard rescue teams and a lifeboat searching inshore areas.

    However, that has now been stood down.

    South West Water has apologised to people in the Helston and in The Lizard areas experiencing low pressure or disruption to their water supplies.

    The company said, external it was following a "significant burst on the trunk main".

    It added that staff had located the problem and were "on site isolating the burst to repair and restore supplies to minimise the impact to customers".

    Coastguard rescue teams and a lifeboat are currently searching for a missing man swept into the sea off north Cornwall.

    Two males, believed to be from the same family, went into the water west of Treyarnon Bay, near Padstow, on Monday afternoon. The pair were believed to be fishing.

    A 21-year-old man was confirmed dead after being rescued and taken to hospital. The search resumed at about 07:00 for the second male.

    The Maritime and Coastguard Agency said its rescue teams in Padstow and Newquay, as well as the Padstow lifeboat were "currently searching a defined search area including Constantine Bay, Treyarnon Bay, Pepper Cove and Warren Cove".

    The agency added: "Sadly, with the passage of time, a successful outcome is looking less likely. However, the search is still ongoing."

    Police say they seized thousands of small canisters of laughing gas and made eight arrests at this year's Lockdown Festival at Powderham Castle, near Exeter at the weekend.

    Three men were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs, including a man who tried to sell directly to festival security staff.

    Another was detained on suspicion of being in possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear, officers said.

    Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is taken by hundreds of thousands of people every year as a recreational drug. But the gas can also be issued by doctors for its pain-relieving properties.

    A search has resumed this morning for a missing man after the two, believed to be from the same family, went into the water west of Treyarnon Bay, near Padstow. The pair were believed to be fishing.

    A major operation was launched on Monday afternoon after the alarm was raised.

    A 21-year-old man was confirmed dead after being rescued and taken to hospital. The search resumed at about 07:00 for the second man.

    James Instance, from Falmouth Coastguard, said: "While, if you were there, you would have said it wasn't particularly rough, there were very, very significant swells.

    "What that did mean was very confused breaking seas and challenging conditions very, very close inshore."

    Town councillor Amanda Pennington said the animal was found in a puddle on Sunday morning in Jubilee Park with disposable lighters strewn around.

    The hedgehog was taken to vets but they could not save the animal and it died later that morning.

    Mrs Pennington said the discovery of the hedgehog was the latest in a series of of incidents involving vandalism and anti-social behaviour in the town.
