  1. Torquay response impresses boss Owerspublished at 13:38 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2017

    Brent Pilnick
    BBC Sport

Torquay United manager Gary Owers has praised the response from his players as they beat high-flying Sutton United.

The 1-0 win saw the Gulls move off the bottom of the National League and end a four-game losing streak.

"I had a bit of a pop at the lads on Saturday and I asked for a response," said Owers, who has seen his side score just once at home since taking over.

"I asked them to show some resilience and some spirit and some fight and they've shown that in abundance."

The Gulls had scored just one goal in their previous seven games - the 1-1 draw at Halifax a month ago, the last time they picked up a point before Tuesday night.

But Owers says it is important that the Gulls can move on and get back-to-back league wins for the first time since the end of last season when they face Leyton Orient on Saturday.

"I've been disappointed with the home form and I hope that we can go back now to Plainmoor and make some progress up the league by collecting some points at home.

"I'm really pleased, I'm trying to keep a level head, we haven't done anything yet."

Next month the children will be performing a carol concert at the home, with invitations for the residents to attend both the school Christmas play and the end-of-term carol concert at St Budeaux Church.

Paul Hutt, from Freshfields, said: “The idea is to try and break down the fear and stigma attached to dementia by helping the youngsters understand the disease and how it affects people."

West Country-based Reminiscence Learning’s Archie Project is behind the scheme and says it looks to promote inter-generational awareness.

  3. Police concern for missing Bodmin manpublished at 12:56 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2017

    Hayley Westcott

Police are concerned for a 61-year-old man who has been missing since Saturday.

It's thought Eric Edwards might have been making his way from Bodmin to the Falmouth area by foot.

He is of slight build with short grey hair, last seen wearing a blue winter coat and black woolly hat.

    Police are appealing for information.

  4. Keeper injuries ridiculous - Adamspublished at 12:44 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2017

    Brent Pilnick
    BBC Sport

Plymouth boss Derek Adams says he cannot believe his injury problems in goal after losing a fourth goalkeeper.

Youth team goalkeeper Michael Cooper dislocated his finger in training on Tuesday, meaning the youth team's reserve stopper, Max Childs, was on the bench for the 2-0 win over Northampton.

Emergency loanee Remi Matthews is the only fit senior keeper, and he played on Tuesday despite badly bruised knees.

"To have four goalkeepers out is ridiculous," Adams said after his side's League One win over the Cobblers.

First-choice goalkeeper and captain McCormick has not played since 23 September after hurting his ankle, while understudy Letheren injured his thigh at Blackburn last month and is out until after Christmas.

Dutch stopper Te Loeke, who has only played in a 5-0 EFL Cup loss at Bristol City and a Checkatrade Trophy draw with Chelsea's under-23s in August, has hurt his back while Cooper's only appearance came as a second-half replacement for Letheren at Ewood Park.

"I've never experienced it as a manager," Adams told BBC Radio Devon. "When I got the phone call yesterday I couldn't believe it.

"I went and asked 'are we allowed to take another goalkeeper?' But the answer was 'no' because we've got Remi, so this is the way we've got to go until January."

  7. Man groped in tunnel 'brushed under carpet', court toldpublished at 12:12 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2017

    Hamish Marshall
    BBC Spotlight

A statement given at an inquiry about a man being sexually abused in a tunnel by Plymouth businessman, Charles Howeson, was "brushed under the carpet", a court has heard.

The man - who can't be named for legal reasons - told the court he was groped by Mr Howeson in a dark tunnel on a boat trip to Drake's Island when working for the Groundwork Trust Plymouth in the 1990s.

He said Mr Howeson "put his hand on my shoulder and his hand onto my leg and started rubbing my thigh. I felt very intimidated and that it wasn’t right what he was doing. It was like a sexual come on".

They went into the tunnels on the island without a torch and the man said he was lifted onto Mr Howeson’s shoulders on the pretext of finding cables and switches on the roof.

He said it was Charles Howeson’s idea, adding "he crouched down and I went up and then he rubbed my leg again. As I was stretching up he put his hands on me again".

The man said he gave a statement at an inquiry a few months after the incident but "it was brushed under the carpet basically".

Mr Howeson, 67, denies 12 sexual offences against nine different men dating back to the 1980s and 1990s.

The trial, at Bristol Crown Court, continues.

The pair went into tunnels without a torch and the man said Mr Howeson helped him on to his shoulders on the pretext of looking for cables and switches in the roof.

He said he rubbed his leg and private parts on two separate occasions, each lasting about one-minute.

He said he had not consented to this and didn't report the incident immediately because "I was intimidated because of who he was."

Mr Howeson, 67, denies 12 sexual offences against nine different men dating back to the 1980s and 1990s.

The trial, at Bristol Crown Court, continues.

  13. Exeter's worst showing in 'a long time'published at 10:56 Greenwich Mean Time 22 November 2017

    Brent Pilnick
    BBC Sport

Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale says his side's performance in their 3-1 loss at Crawley Town was the worst he has seen for many years.

The Grecians are now four points off the automatic promotion places in League Two after back-to-back losses.

"I haven't seen us play that poorly for a long time," Tisdale told BBC Devon.

"We didn't play well enough, it's not one thing, the whole performance was lacking on our part and it's something you have to draw a line under."

    Paul TisdaleImage source, Rex Features

Tisdale, who is the longest-serving manager in the EFL, says he cannot remember the last time he was so disappointed with his side.

"I've not had a loss of temper with the players, there was something wrong tonight, we'll have to work it out and move forward," the 44-year-old said.

"I've been here before, lost games before, I've lost disappointing matches before, it's not the losing, it's the fact we didn't play well enough.

"It's a year or two, certainly not last year, maybe the year before, maybe the year before that, that I've been as disappointed with my team as I was tonight.
