Children staying at Royal Cornwall Hospital over the Christmas period will benefit from a surprise donation of Lego from the police.
An officer from Camborne delivered the toys to the children's ward after they were seized from a shoplifter who took them from various shops in west Cornwall.
After the man's arrest officers were unable to prove where the items came from and could not return them.
PC Ross Waite, who dealt with the arrest, got permission to donate the toys.
Hospital staff said they plan to have some of the toys on the ward and give boxes to sick children at Christmas.
The tree in Camborne is among the UK Christmas decorations that have not been greeted by all of the residents.
Consistent freezing temperatures have caused Exeter City Council to make extra beds available for rough sleepers.
The beds will be provided at Gabriel House in the city.
Bournemouth Churches Housing Association, which runs the centre, will be running the service from 1 December through to the end of March.
If temperatures dip below zero for three consecutive days, a spokesman said, the council activates its "severe weather protocol", to provide winter accommodation.
Bunk manager Rachel Lewis said couples could access the beds, and some of them were specially reserved for "at risk women".
Cllr Emma Morse said: "The emergency bunks will ensure the most vulnerable rough sleepers have access to accommodation during the coldest months of the year and I am extremely grateful to BCHA for their support with this initiative."

Exeter's England and British Lions winger Jack Nowell returns to action after almost two months out.
The 24-year-old has been named on the bench for tomorrow's Premiership match with Bath having recovered from two operations to fix a fractured eye socket.
Harry Williams comes into a new-look front row after England duty, while Sam Simmonds is on the bench after his national team debut.
England centre and Wales prop Tomos Francis are rested while there are recalls for Luke Cowan-Dickie, Alec Hepburn and James Short.
"Traditionally if you look at how close the scorelines have been between us and Bath over the last five or six years, normally with Bath on the right side of them, you've probably got to say that this is one of the most competitive games over four or five years that we've had in the Premiership," Chiefs boss Rob Baxter told BBC Sport.
"We've got to play very well this weekend, we've got to be very focused right from the start.
"Bath have shown they're very dangerous early in games, we've shown in the last couple of weeks that we've not been at our best early in games, there's an awful lot of things there in the recipe that makes for a very exciting weekend for us."
A court has heard there was "no qualified foreman" on a highway repair site where a road worker died.
South West Highways have been fined £500,000 over safety failings that led to the death of Steven Tolly, 48, as he repaired potholes on the A361 North Devon Link Road at Gornhay Cross.
Mr Tolly suffered fatal head injuries after he was hit by a van and knocked into a hot-box full of boiling tar.
In Exeter Crown Court Judge Mr Justice Dingemans said traffic should have been diverted away from the workers or put on a contraflow.
A warning about a similar near miss just four days before had not been heeded by the Highways company, which was contracted to repair roads for Devon County Council, the court heard.
The four workers in the group, including Mr Tolly should have had a protected safety area to keep vehicles 1.2m away from them, but it was not put in place.
Sentencing Mr Dingemans said: "There was, in my judgement, a high likelihood of harm resulting in the risk of death to unprotected workers. There were two causes of this accident, careless driving and the failure to protect worker by having safety zones."

The fire service have joined the police in calling on the public for information on a suspected serial arsonist, currently being hunted by police in Exeter.

Dr Andrew Williams from the University of Exeter is overseeing the data that is gathered and thinks it could give them some very important insights into health issues residents may have.
Quote MessageWe know that there is a damp and mould condition in a number of homes across Cornwall which is producing a lot of respiratory ill health, [for example] asthma. We've been out taking questionnaires from people to find out what the state of their health is, and then we'll have this data alongside it to see what is happening in terms of the environment."

Torquay boss Gary Owers may need to slim down his squad if he is to bring in fresh talent.
The Gulls boss says he is facing an "element of uncertainty" as he ponders how to use his remaining loans.
Owers feels his plans to bring in new players have been hit by the size of the squad he inherited when he took over as Gulls boss in September.
"If I was coming in on day one I'd go with a squad of 18 outfield players and two goalkeepers and try to spend more money on less players," he continued.
"When I arrived I had a squad of 27, so that's what I've been dealt with and that's what I'm trying to sort out now.
"I am really looking at it at the minute and thinking about how we move forward.
"If I take a certain amount of loans in and I lose them all before the end of the season, in the later months we could be four or five down again and scraping through and I don't want to do that."
