  1. First Natwest branch to close in one weekpublished at 12:57 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2017

    BBC Radio Cornwall

Several branches of Natwest and RBS will close across Devon and Cornwall following a national announcement.

The first to close in Cornwall - Wadebridge - will shut its doors on Friday 8 December. Other branches will close between December 2017 and June 2018.

RBS has published figures which show transactions over the counter have fallen.

The lowest figure in Cornwall is for Wadebridge where bosses say just 36 customers "do business face-to-face every week". The highest is 68 transactions at the Newquay and Helston branches each week.

Natwest says it's "proactively communicating with customers affected by the closures" and will be contacting vulnerable customers and regular branch users.

A mobile branch will be in Wadebridge for 12 weeks because of the short notice of the closure.

  3. Dawlish: 'Britain's bossiest town' to review signspublished at 12:14 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2017

    BBC Radio Devon

A visitor to Dawlish has posted a scathing review online saying it is one of the "unfriendliest" towns in the country.

The person, who posted the comments on TripAdvisor, says the number of signs in the town is creating an unfriendly tone and is doing the area a disservice.

They claimed they saw more signs in the town centre than on a 14-mile drive over from Brixham.

Town Mayor, Martin Wrigley, says the objective visitors may have done them "a favour".

They've probably done us favour. Sometimes it takes somebody from outside to look at the place and say 'there's too many signs here', because the locals just don't see them, they go up one by one over many years."

The National Trust house, Overbecks, in Salcombe, is one of several places to appear in the novel under a different name.

Mr Wilson added there was "certainly a bit of Totnes in there" as well.

"Bradford are the favourites because of the position they are in the league and they've done well this season," Argyle boss Derek Adams told BBC Radio Devon.

"But they were favourites the last time we went there and went up and won 1-0 with a good performance.

    BBC Sport

Exeter City fans will welcome the return of Danny Seaborne to St James Park.

Along with Dean Moxey and Ryan Harley, he is another of the side that helped the club to the heady heights of League One a few years ago who have returned 'home' after playing their trade higher up the tree.

But there will also be a worry for how long the club will be without Troy Brown.

Manager Paul Tisdale told BBC Sport he would be "out for a significant length of time", but was still unsure of the exact nature of the injury.

With the addition of Seaborne to the squad it appears that Brown could be out for months rather than weeks.

Police said many of the incidents involved hedges and foliage being set alight

Officer said it was only by "pure chance" no-one had been injured in the fires.

Insp Simon Arliss said: "Many of the linked incidents have involved hedges and foliage which are adjoining properties, where fires have been started by the suspect dousing the area in petrol before setting it alight."

All the fires took place in the early hours of the morning, he added.

Police say some of the locations had been targeted "more than once", and others had found evidence of preparation for another attack, such as hedges soaked in fuel, which had not been carried out.

In these cases the suspect "must have been spooked before being able to fully set the fire.", according to Insp Arliss.

Police are urging the public to report any similar incidents.

  18. Campaigners 'concerned' over universal creditpublished at 08:38 Greenwich Mean Time 1 December 2017

    BBC Spotlight

    job centre

The new benefit universal credit will start to roll-out in parts of Cornwall next week - with campaigners warning of the impact on rural areas.

Liskeard, Bude and Launceston are the first areas in the county where all new applicants will see multiple benefits replaced by one monthly payment.

Lesley Carty from the Labour Party in Liskeard says people may have an issue accessing their benefits due to broadband issues in rural areas, as applicants must register online.

Heather Devreese, a single mum from Liskeard, told the BBC she relies on tax credits to top up her wages and any payment delay would have a big impact.

However, Johnny Mercer, Conservative MP for Plymouth Moor View, said the new system was the "single biggest poverty fighting tool we've got".
