The vessel was only accepted into the Royal Navy fleet by Her Majesty The Queen earlier this month.

The Royal Navy said the Portsmouth-based ship was scheduled for repair and the fault would not affect the programme of sea trials.

A number of ship-building yards around the country were involved in the build - these include Govan and Scotstoun in Glasgow, Appledore in Devon, Cammell Laird in Liverpool, A&P on the Tyne in Newcastle and Portsmouth.

About 10,000 people worked on construction of the ship, made up in sections at yards around the UK and transported to Rosyth, Fife, where it was assembled.

The Home Office says it noted the Supreme Court's ruling in favour of the Scottish government, and ministers will be keeping the issue under review. It says it's focusing on other measures like higher tax duties for strong ciders and says Public Health England's working with councils to help dependent drinkers.
