    Sarah Gosling
    BBC News Online

People are being asked to look after each other - particularly the elderly and vulnerable - this winter.

Torbay Council is supporting the Stay Well This Winter, external campaign, and recommends:

    • Houses are kept to at least 18C (65F) where possible
    • Neighbours ensure that the vulnerable are stocked with their prescriptions
    • All eligible persons receive a free flu vaccination

Councillor Jackie Stockman, lead for health and eellbeing, said: “Older neighbours, relatives, friends and elderly members of the community are more vulnerable in the winter months and may need a bit of extra help this winter.

“It is important to keep in touch and check if they are feeling under the weather, help them stock up on food supplies and make sure they have their necessary medications before the Christmas holiday or a spell of bad weather begins.”
