    She died at her home in Barbican Hill, East Looe, Cornwall on New Year's Eve.

    Her two dogs also died in the fire.

    A neighbour said the blaze was so vicious he could not get in to help her.

    A cyclist received serious head and leg injuries in a serious crash in Penzance, police say.

    Officers said, external the cyclist and a Citroen C2 crashed on the A30 Heamoor roundabout at about 20:10 on Saturday.

    The 28-year-old rider was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

    Firefighters in Devon have dealt with several incidents overnight, including suspicious blazes in Dawlish and Exeter.

    Six teams were called to the three-storey building in Ashcombe Road, Dawlish, at about 02:50.

    Fire crews also rescued a man from a fire in a flat in Paignton and dealt with a house fire in Bradninch involving a dishwasher.

    They were also called to a barn fire in Denbury, near Newton Abbot, and a building on fire on Paris Street in Exeter, which is also believed to have been started deliberately.

    Totnes rail ticket prices protest

    Average rail ticket prices have risen by 3.4% across the UK, in the biggest increase to fares since 2013.

    Protests are planned at some 40 stations nationwide, including at Totnes in Devon (pictured, organised by local Labour Party supporters), as many commuters see their season tickets go up by more than £100.

    Campaigners warned that many people were "being priced out of getting to work".

    The Department for Transport said price rises were capped in line with inflation.

    A tractor driver who was on his way to a New Year's Day tractor run has died after it overturned at Praze-an-Beeble near Camborne on Monday morning.

    The 34-year-old, from the Camborne area, was trapped under his machine and fire crews were called to release him.

    Paramedics treated the man, from the Camborne area, but he died at the scene at about 09:30. His next of kin had been informed, police said, external.

    The accident also involved a blue VW van but no-one else was injured.

    The tractor run from Crowan to Stithians was cancelled.

    Swimming pools at a Cornwall leisure centre are due to re-open later after a major five-month refurbishment.

    The work at the Carn Brea centre in Pool has meant regular swimmers have had to travel further to train.

    But now, thanks to £1.2m of fundraising, there's a new 20m swim zone and the area around the poolside is wider.

    A man who died after a tractor overturned was travelling on an unclassified road between Blackrock and Crowan in Praze-An-Beeble in Cornwall, police say.

    The 34-year-old was trapped under the tractor and fire crews were called to release him in the incident at Crowan, near Camborne, on Sunday morning.

    Paramedics treated the man, from the Camborne area, but he died at the scene. His next of kin had been informed, police said, external.

    The accident also involved a blue VW van but no one else was injured.

    Police have appealed for witnesses.

    Surveyors are expected on site later to continue repairs.

    A fire which killed a woman in her bungalow in East Looe on New Year's Eve is currently being treated as unexplained, police say, external.

    Fire crews were called to the fire just before 20:00 on Sunday after about 50 calls were made to 999.

    Firefighters said the blaze was so fierce they were barely able to enter.

    An investigation is under way into the cause of the blaze. The scene remains sealed off and under guard.

    A man from Torquay has agreed to be the national face of Dry January.

    Lewis Hull, 35, is a keen cyclist and is sharing his progress on social media.

    "I can go for a week, 10 days, two weeks without drinking alcohol at all, but then I can exceed the government guidelines, external in a weekend alone. I'm trying to reset my habits with alcohol."

    Alcohol is thought to be a contributing factor in at least six cancers and Mr Hull also wants to raise awareness.
