A damaged footpath along a dramatic section of Cornish clifftop coastpath has been described as very dangerous by a walker who has seen it.

Rob Lawrance was walking along the path at lunchtime. He's told BBC Radio Cornwall:

"You can see the footpath is undercut by about 4ft and it's just the shape of the wave underneath it.

"There's a crack near the bricks and the wall that's coming back about 10 or 20ft.

    "It's very, very, very dangerous."

  2. Timber: 'Not a case of finders keepers'published at 14:30 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2018

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is reminding people of the rules surround salvage material after it emerged tonnes of wood planks are heading for North Devon's beaches.

Alison Kentuck, Receiver of Wreck for the Maritime & Coastguard Agency, said: "The timber will not be suitable for use as a building material as it’s been saturated with salt water.

"Our biggest concern is to make sure that members of the public don’t put themselves at risk attempting to retrieve any timber, especially given the current weather conditions.

"It is not a case of finders keepers, the MCA is continuing to work alongside the ship’s agents and the local authority."

Under the Merchant Shipping Act 1995, all recoveries of wreck material (which covers any timber lost from a vessel at sea) must be reported to the Receiver of Wreck, external. Failing to report removal of wreck to the receiver is a criminal offence.

A new computer programme can help dementia patients get faster treatment, it is hoped.

    Dr Laura Hill

Dr Laura Hill, associate clinical director with the Devon Memory Service explained how the new system may help.

She said: "If they do have dementia they are going to access their assessments in a prompt fashion and therefore they can get onto treatment and get the support that they need so that they can live alongside their diagnosis."

  11. Exeter have 'nothing to lose' against West Brompublished at 11:50 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2018

    Brent Pilnick
    BBC Sport

Exeter City boss Paul Tisdale says his side have "nothing to lose" when they face Premier League club West Bromwich Albion in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

West Brom are without a win in their last 21 matches and are bottom of the Premier League, while City are seventh in League Two, two points off the automatic promotion places.

    Paul TisdaleImage source, Getty Images

"We're playing a Premier League team at home in the FA Cup with nothing to lose and we're going to really enjoy the day," Tisdale told BBC Sport.

"Whatever they've done over the last few games is probably irrelevant, they're a Premier League team with professional people who want to do their best, so I think we're looking forward to it and we realise it's going to be a very tough game.

"We have got one or two players out injured, which makes life a little bit difficult, so for whatever West Brom do, we've also got one or two of our own issues."

    Jonathan Morris
    BBC News Online

A seal has been found with a fractured jaw after being washed up on rocks by Storm Eleanor.

The animal was found by rescuers at Gwithian in Cornwall.

    TedImage source, Barry Williams

The seal, called Ted, is now recovering at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary with other victims of winter storms.

British Divers Marine Life Rescue said the number of animals rescued was "unprecedented".

Spokesman Dan Jarvis said many were pups born in October.

"They are trying to hunt for themselves, but they are not brilliantly successful at hunting," he said.

"We are seeing a lot of underweight animals."

He advised anyone who sees washed up seals to leave them alone.

"They come on to land to rest and after a prolonged period of stress they are going to be exhausted.

"So do not shoo them into the water, they are tired and they need to sleep and rest."

Many animals have been rescued from beaches in Devon and Cornwall after stormy weather battered the counties.

    Brent Pilnick
    BBC Sport

Plymouth Argyle's only outfield injury concern is Aaron Taylor-Sinclair ahead of Saturday's League One game with bottom side Bury.

Argyle are still without their three injured goalkeepers Luke McCormick, Kyle Letheren and Robbert te Loeke, so Remi Matthews will start in goal after finalising his loan move from Norwich City until the end of the season.

But Adams, whose side have moved out of the relegation places after an excellent run of six games unbeaten in the league, says his side must be wary of a Bury team who have brought in a number of new players.

"Bury have enhanced their squad over the last 24 hours, taking in a central defender and a striker, and they might change things around.

"They've got a big squad, they might look to shuffle about," he added to BBC Radio Devon.
