    A Cornwall parish has a new team trained to use speed monitoring equipment provided by police.

    Feock Parish Council said on Facebook, external members of the local community would be "carrying out occasional speed monitoring at approved locations" in response "to concerns raised by residents about the level of speeding in the parish".

    Information gathered, including registration numbers of offending vehicles, would be passed to police and "repeat offences could lead to prosecution", the council warned.

    The only approved location for the use of the equipment was in Carnon Downs, but other locations across the parish were "expected to be approved in due course", the authority added.

    The A38 will remain closed in both directions between Liskeard and Carkeel into the evening, Highways England has said.

    The road was closed by Devon and Cornwall Police following an incident involving two vehicles at around 2.15pm today.

    A woman suffered serious head injuries in the head-on collision between a Renault estate and an Audi A4 between Tideford and Saltash.

    One Cornish school is ahead of the curve when it comes to cutting down on consuming single use plastic.

    For the last 18 months pupils at Marazion School have been learning about the dangers to the marine habitat of plastics that never decay - with many getting involved in local beach cleans.

    Now they're going a step further - as the whole school attempts to go plastic free.

    A piece of suspected unexploded World War Two ordinance found in Plymouth has been taken away by a bomb disposal team.

    Police were called to Discovery Road, in the Mount Wise area, at about 12:30 and a 100m cordon was put in place after the object was dug up by workmen.

    Nearby homes were also evacuated as a precaution.

    Sixteen snakes have been killed in a barn fire in Yealmpton, firefighters say.

    People were evacuated from some nearby homes, while residents in others were warned to close their windows due to toxic gas from flames after the blaze broke out beside Kitley Farm at about 09:00.

    Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said crews also had to deal with gas cylinders and a diesel tank, believed to be holding up to 500 litres of fuel, on site.

    A woman has suffered head injuries in a serious crash on the A38 in Cornwall, police say.

    Officers said they were called to a head-on collision between a Renault estate and an Audi A4 between Tideford and Saltash at about 14:15.

    Police, fire crews, the ambulance service and an air ambulance have been called to the scene.

    The road is closed in both directions between the junctions with the A388 at Carkeel and the A390, near Liskeard.

    Diversions are in place and highways bosses said the road was likely to remain closed into the evening.

    The A38 between Tideford and Liskeard Road in Saltash remains blocked in both directions due to an earlier accident.

    Traffic is queueing and the A388 through St Mellion and the A390 through St Ive are both now busy as drivers try and avoid the closure.

    The government has ordered a fast-track investigation into directors at the failed construction firm Carillion.

    The UK's second largest construction firm, which employs 20,000 people in the UK, went bust on Monday with debts of about £1.5bn.

    Business Secretary Greg Clark has asked for an investigation by the Official Receiver to be broadened and fast-tracked.

    The conduct of directors in charge at the time of company's failure and previous directors will be examined.

    Carillion's business is now in the hands of the official receiver, which is reviewing all of Carillion's contracts.

    The company employed 20,000 people in the UK, with about 175 of those in Devon and Cornwall.

    A man who was found dead at a property in Exeter last week has been identified as 31-year-old Daniel Sandu, police say.

    Officers said they were treating the death as unexplained after discovering his body in a property in Mount Pleasant Road at 05:50 last Friday.

    A 44-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail until 9 February.

    They added: "Helicopters can carry passengers at very short notice to remote locations to assist police forces on the ground."
