The lives of four boys who were "systematically abused" at a school in North Devon "were overshadowed" by the actions of a man "in a position of trust", a judge has said.
Anothony Bennett, 65, was jailed for 19 years after being found guilty of multiple sex offences.
Sentencing at Exeter Crown Court today Judge Erik Salomonsen said: "This was systematic abuse of pupils at a boarding school in a rural part of Devon.
"The account given by witnesses was of a harsh regime where senior boys bullied younger boys, who were away from home for the first time and very vulnerable.
"These were heinous crimes against vulnerable victims who were entitled to rely on every employee of the school to protect them. You were a janitor in a position of trust in relation to all pupils."
Bennett was made to sign on the sex offenders register for life, and was also made subject of a sexual harm prevention order which restricts his contact with children on his release.
Traders in Bideford say they're losing business because of a road improvement project on the town's main shopping street.
Mill Street is closed to traffic until the end of March so paving stones and kerbs can be replaced.
Devon County Council says the work may be finished before then and that it is being carried out as sensitively as possible.
But local business owners say they're losing money because of the road closure.

A Cornish MP has said he can see "both sides" of the argument to move some cancer treatment services from Cornwall.

"Firstly because you have long term treatment, and secondly because it is tiring as well."
Under the NHS England proposals, the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Treliske would continue to handle most cancer patients but more serious cases would be treated at Derriford in Plymouth.
