    Police say a man who died in a crash on the A30 at Upottery near Honiton yesterday was in his 60s, but he has yet to be formally identified.

    The head-on collision between a BMW and a HGV happened close to the junction with the Seven Mile Straight at about 07:00.

    The A30 was closed between the A35 and A303 for about seven hours while police carried out investigative work.

    Officers said yesterday that moments before the crash, the BMW driver had tried to overtake the lorry.

    Fire crews remain at the scene of a barn fire at Coombelake, near Ottery St Mary.

    Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a blaze at about 00:50 and found the barn "well alight".

    Firefighters say the operation will be ongoing "for some time".

    • The Dartmouth Higher Ferry is currently out of service.
    • In Plymouth on the A38 Parkway around St Budeaux heading towards the Tamar Bridge there are reports there's a broken-down vehicle.
    • On the A38 around Lee Mill heading towards Plymouth there are reports of slow traffic.

  5. Police continue to investigate fatal M5 crashpublished at 08:56 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2018

    Police are continuing their investigation after a fatal crash closed the M5 at Cullompton on Tuesday.

    Officers were notified at about 06.40 to reports that multiple vehicles hit a man on the road between junctions 28 and 29.

    The road was closed for about eight hours.

    A full investigation of the scene was completed and police are continuing to determine the identity of the person that died and the reason for the body being on the motorway.

    Any witnesses are being asked to contact Devon and Cornwall Police.

    Firefighters have rescued a dog that was stuck on top of a rock for 90 minutes in Cornwall.

    It happened at about 11:30 on Tuesday at Roche Rock.

    Crews lowered Anakin the lurcher-cross and reunited him with his owners.

    A large group of migrant flower pickers employed at a farm raided by police last week have written to the police demanding an apology for being made to feel like "victims".

    Three men were arrested after officers raided Bosahan Farm near Helston, two on suspicion of modern slavery offences and one on suspicion of gangmaster offences.

    All three have since been released while investigations continue.

    The raid

    Justinus Staliunas, a Lithuanian translator representing the group, says 189 workers have added their signatures to the letter which says "the farmer has always been good to us and we feel that he has been treated very badly".

    Last Thursday evening, the day of the raid, many of the workers gathered at Camborne Police Station to protest against the arrests.

    Devon and Cornwall Police is yet to comment.

    A Devon and Cornwall Police officer says he hopes people will "adapt their driving style accordingly" this morning after two fatal crashes in the county on Tuesday.

    Ch Insp Adrian Leisk, who is head of the roads policing team, said low temperatures could mean "widespread ice on untreated roads".

    He also added how the force's resilience was "tested" when dealing with a crash on the M5 where one person died and another on the A30, where somebody else was killed.

    He said he was "proud" of the team and his thoughts "remain with the families of those who lost their lives".

    Following heavy rain on Tuesday, river levels in North Cornwall remain high and will rise again quickly with the next band of rain today, the Environment Agency has said., external

    It said further rain is expected to sweep across the county through most of Wednesday and flooding of low lying land and roads is likely.

    However, no flooding to properties is currently forecast.

    A 27-year-old man is missing from Kingsbridge, Devon and Cornwall Police have said.

    Sean Doyle was last seen at about 10:40 on Tuesday at the Creeks End pub.

    Police are concerned for his welfare.

    Sean is described as a white man, tall with a slim build. He has brown hair with shaved sides - shorter than in the photograph released by police.

    He was last seen wearing a dark green jacket with a grey lined hoody over a maroon hoody, jeans and dark boots and carrying a rucksack.

    Anyone with information is being asked to contact police via 101.

    • At Praze-An-Beeble, Station Hill is partially blocked at the junction with the B3280 due to an accident.
    • In Launceston on the A388 Tavistock Road near Robin Drive there are temporary traffic lights for gas mains work. Slow traffic in the area.

    • In Exeter on Newcourt Way at the A379, there are reports of an accident.
    • Also in Exeter, on the A3015 around Honiton Road there are reports of an accident.
    • On the A380 around Kingsteignton there are lane closures and a speed restriction due to roadworks. Traffic is slow-moving heading towards Penn Inn.
    • In Plymouth there are delays on Tavistock Road due to roadworks.
    • Near Bideford on the A39 Torridge Bridge, there's slow traffic in both directions due to work on the bridge.

  16. Animals evacuated as firefighters tackle barn blazepublished at 07:29 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2018

    Firefighters are tackling a barn fire in East Devon, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has said.

    It received multiple reports of a fire at Coombelake, near Ottery St Mary at about 00:50.

    On arrival, crews confirmed the barn was "well alight" and that it contained hay and farming equipment.

    Firefighters are still trying to bring the fire under control and are also assisting with the evacuation of animals.

    Some CrossCountry train services are being amended this morning as high tide and strong onshore winds are causing waves to crash over the Dawlish sea wall.

    Services will be affected until 08:00.
