    A 14-year-old boy has reportedly been assaulted in an alley way in St Austell.

    The local teenager says he was approached by two young men opposite the Co-op store in Moorland Road at about 16:00 on Monday.

    Police say he received minor leg injuries and was taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital. They are appealing for witnesses.

    Highways England is advising drivers to expect delays to their journeys today after two fatal crashes in the region.

    The M5 southbound remains closed between junction 28 at Cullompton and junction 29 at Exeter following a fatal crash.

    The A30 is currently closed between the A35 and A303 following a multi-vehicle fatal crash at Upottery.

    Drivers are advised to consider alternative routes or delay their journeys to Devon and Cornwall wherever possible.

    Christian Morgan, South West operations manager for Highways England, said: "Police investigations are ongoing into the two incidents and while the closures remain, we advise people to plan their journeys and where possible, to delay their journeys.

    "Routes will be reopened as soon as police have concluded their investigations and as soon as it is safe to do so."

    Three police officers have been assaulted in the region, Devon and Cornwall Police Federation has said.

    In Cornwall, an offender "slammed a door" on one officer while another was "punched in the face".

    And in Exeter, an officer was "spat in the face" while attempting to negotiate with an offender.

    Devon and Cornwall Police remain at the scene of a fatal crash on the M5 where one person has died.

    The southbound stretch of the motorway between junction 28 and junction 29 from Cullompton to Exeter remains closed.

    Devon and Cornwall Police say people are still "travelling too fast" after two fatal crashes on the region's roads.

    Ch Insp Adrian Leisk said people are not driving to the weather conditions and are "not leaving distance from the vehicle in front".

    "Our concern is around the wider driving. When the weather is terrible and the vision is impaired and the road service is wet, people fail to account for the change in weather conditions and still drive as they would on dry roads. What we're trying to do is avoid this figure rising even further."

    There have been fatal crashes on the M5 and the A30 this morning.

  14. Person dies after head-on crash on A30published at 10:15 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2018

    A person has died after a crash on the A30, Devon and Cornwall Police have said.

    The head-on crash between a BMW and a HGV lorry happened on the A30 at Upottery near Honiton at about 07:00.

    The driver is yet to be identified and next of kin have not been informed.

    Moments before the crash, a dark BMW attempted to overtake a Silverback Tipper HGV milk tanker or chemical tanker, police said.

    A spokesperson added: "This HGV did not stop following the collision which took place moments later in which the driver of the BMW died."

    The driver of the HGV is being urged to get in touch with police as a matter of urgency.

    Closures remain in place in both directions between the A35 and A303 while investigations takes place.

    A fallen tree between Exton and Ebford has blocked Exmouth Road in both directions.

    Highways say the road will be shut for another couple of hours due to the size of tree.

    Traffic is very heavy through Woodbury as drivers avoid that closure.

    A man has died in a crash on the M5 in Devon.

    Police said "multiple vehicles" struck the body of a man on the road of the southbound carriageway between Cullompton and Exeter at 06:40 GMT.

    Devon County Council's Highways Control team says there may be more issues on the county's roads tomorrow morning due to the amount of surface water.

    Speaking from the council's highways control room in Exeter, Hugh Griffiths said: "You just don’t know what to expect from one moment to the next and again tomorrow morning with all this water around, we will have ice issues.

    "Hopefully the rain is moving off now and there's more showers than heavy rain but really people should take their time, slow down and be aware of all the issues around you."
