Rising house prices across the wider South West have boosted the average property sale to £270,000 - more than 10 times the average salary, the National Housing Federation has said.

It compares to an average price of £225,000 in 2012.

South Hams District councillor Peter Smerdon said: "This will be community housing for local people with a local connection to their town or village, so we can help people stay in the area where they were born and brought up".
