Peter Heaton-Jones, MP for North Devon, says a meeting between a local resident and a senior government minister to discuss concerns about care homes was "extremely constructive".

John Barrass from Bickington has been campaigning for eight years for an overhaul of the private care home system following his mother's death, which he believes could have been prevented.

The car park in Fore Street, Kingsbridge, which is currently free for three hours and £1 for four hours, would increase to £1 for three hours and £3 for four hours.

The Quay car park in Kingsbridge would, however, see prices drop.

A new railway station at Okehampton, which would see the reintroduction of daily services to Exeter, has taken a step closer.

A feasibility study by Devon County Council has identified two preferred layout options.

One option would see a double platform on a single track line, where Exeter-bound trains would use a through platform on the north side of the platform and Dartmoor Rail would use a bay platform on the south side.

The other preferred option is a single-sided platform on the south side of the railway.

The cost of the most viable station layouts, plus a car park and track maintenance, is estimated to be about £9m.

    Quote Message

I am very encouraged that we are now really getting into the detail of how a regular service between Okehampton and Exeter could be delivered. There are still hurdles to overcome, such as the need to improve parts of the track, but this is definitely a big step in the right direction."

Cornwall Council is to not make any changes to its adult social care procedures after a controversial consultation, it says.

The authority admitted earlier this week that the process was not its "best piece of work".
