    The RNLI says it rescued a paddle boarder who got into trouble about 1,150ft (350m) off the coast at Seaton beach, Cornwall, on Monday afternoon.

    The man quickly became exhausted after falling into the water while wearing shorts and a T-shirt and could not make it back to shore.

    Two lifeguards helped transfer him to the Looe inshore lifeboat and the paddle boarder was transferred back to shore.

    The manager of Plymouth Argyle has today agreed to extend his contract at Home Park.

    Derek Adams put pen to paper along with coaches, external Paul Wotton, Kevin Nancekivell and Rhys Wilmot.

    Pilgrims chairman James Brent said: “The club has made significant strides – on and off the field – since the Board appointed Derek three years ago and everyone looks forward with confidence to this continuing.”

    The details of the contract extensions have not been released yet.

    We told you about some sterling (silver) winners from Cornwall at this year's Chelsea Flower Show earlier.

    Two of Cornwall's five entrants have gone one better and won gold.

    Kelnan Plants, from Penzance (whose tweet here shows owner Chris Osborne with the new award), and the National Dahlia Collection, also from Penzance, got the gold medals.

    Calamazag Nurseries, from Looe, and Penberth Plants, from St Bruyan, both gained a silver gilt medal (that's an award between silver and gold).

    We also told you earlier that Reduth's Burncoose Nurseries had a silver gilt award at the Royal Horticultural Society's annual event.

    But a senior partner from Burncoose and Cornish veteran of the show also won a special accolade, receiving a rare medal in recognition of his efforts.

    Charles Williams

    Charles Williams (pictured) has been awarded a Victoria Medal of Honour - one of only 63 in existence.

    He has been attending his 42nd show since first going as a boy, and commented on how different the displays have become over the years.

    He said: "I started as teenager. Once we came here in a van and put cut flowers on the roof of a Ford Transit, came up here, and still got a decent medal."

    Cornish rugby player Josh Matavesi has been called up to the Barbarians squad, external to face England at Twickenham on Sunday.

    The centre, who plays his club rugby for Newcastle and internationally for Fiji, will represent the Barbarians for the first time.

    Cornwall has a unique relationship with the Barbarians. In a special centenary match against Australia in 2008, the entire Barbarians team wore black and gold socks in recognition of the fact the Cornish team represented Great Britain at the 1908 Olympics.

    Automatic number plate recognition technology is to be introduced in Cornwall Council's car parks, external to allow attendants to patrol the streets.

    The authority owns 5,000 car parking spaces in the county but there are also 123 different tariffs.

    It will be a capital investment but the money will be recouped within five years.

    Other plans include the introduction of a blue badge scheme for carers, charging points for electric vehicles and the introduction of contactless payment.

    People will also be able to pay on exit to encourage shoppers to stay in town centres for longer...

    A man from West Looe has had his music equipment confiscated for repeatedly ignoring council requests to turn his music down.

    A CD player, amplifiers and stereos were seized after complaints from local residents of loud rock music regularly being played into the early hours at an address in Princes Square.

    Cornwall Council says it made repeated requests between November and March for the man to turn down the music.

    Officers served a noise abatement notice but the resident ignored the warning, so a warrant was issued last week at Bodmin Magistrates' Court for officers to seize the music equipment and confiscate it for 28 days.

    Three men remain in police custody after two "bladed articles", a small quantity of drugs and an imitation firearm were found in a car in Plymouth.

    Officers stopped and arrested the men, aged 18, 20 and 40 who were travelling in the hatchback on Wolseley Road at about 21:00.

    A motorcycle rider who died after a road crash earlier this month on the A38 in Cornwall has been named as a 61-year-old man from Plymouth.

    Brian Pook died in hospital on Sunday after the eight-vehicle crash in the Glynn Valley, near Liskeard's branch of the discount retailer Trago Mills, on Sunday 6 May, police said, external.

    Sixty-four-year-old motorcycle pillion passenger Jennifer Parsons died in hospital in Plymouth soon after the crash.

    The drivers and occupants of the other vehicles - five cars, a people carrier and a van - suffered minor injuries, police said.

    A Cornwall taxi driver who admitted using an unlicensed car as a private hire vehicle has been disqualified from driving for six months and ordered to pay nearly £2,500 in fines and costs.

    Charles Herrick, 72, of Harbour View, St Just in Roseland, was caught when two licensing officers booked his services to travel from Portscatho.

    They were stopped by a marked police vehicle outside the village.

    A second person has died after a road crash earlier this month on the A38 in Cornwall.

    Eight vehicles were involved in the crash in the Glynn Valley, near Liskeard's branch of the discount retailer Trago Mills, at about 17:45 on Sunday 6 May. The road was closed for seven hours for a police investigation.

    Councillors will be reviewing Ikea's travel plan to see how effective it is - and also whether the bus stop is in the correct place.

    The Swedish furniture giant opened its doors in the city on 10 May, and concerns had been raised about travel in the area, particularly as the store is located next to Sandy Park, home of the Exeter Chiefs in the Newcourt area.

    Store manager Nick Earle said in advance of its opening that they had "the most detailed traffic management plan" to alleviate concerns of residents around the store.

    Councillor Rob Newby, who represents Topsham, said prior to the opening that the store would be good for the city, but that everyone would have to "suck it and see" if traffic management worked.

    Councillors on the Exeter Highways and Traffic Orders Committee last Friday said that at their next meeting they would review the success of the plan.
