    Street musicians in Guernsey could be paid per performance if a new vision from the Town Centre Partnership, external gets the go-ahead.

    Executive Officer, Jack Honeybill who is responsible for auditioning buskers seeking a licence to perform, says there are too few incentives for those with a licence to continue performing.

    "I would like somebody out there to come up with a sponsorship of buskers for 12 months."

    He is proposing paying buskers £30 per hour to build up an ambience in the island's capital.

    A number of Aurigny flights out of Guernsey are delayed due to adverse weather conditions over the weekend, according to the airline.

    The majority of the disruption is on the London Gatwick route with most of the flights to and from the airport facing delays.

    A Devon council has revealed how it intends to use almost £500,000 worth of government funding to try and tackle rough sleeping.

    The money - part of the government's £30m initiative - will boost the immediate support available to people living on the streets of Exeter, and help them back into accommodation.

    The city council also aims to provide a range of additional housing and support services including a temporary emergency night shelter.

    Homeless people

    Across England, there were 4,751 people counted or estimated to be sleeping outside in autumn 2017, a 15% rise on the year before and more than double the figure recorded five years ago.

    Jersey's first ever Battle of Flowers ambassador is 23-year-old Arcadia Lockhart.

    The role of Miss Battle was abolished this year - in favour of a role which could be filled either by a young man or young woman.

    At last night's awards, 21-year-old Lucie Hosking was made consort to the ambassador.

    Her brother, 10-year-old Tobias Hosking was made junior ambassador.

    The new ambassador said she was overwhelmed to have won.

    The Battle of Flowers is the island's biggest tourist event with floats made of a mixture of real and paper flowers.

    Adder warning signs have been put up at a Devon play park.

    Dog walkers and parents at Palstone Park in South Brent are being warned to stay vigilant after sightings of Britain's only venomous snake.

    Adders are most active between March and October. They are described as grey or reddish brown with a very distinct zig-zag pattern down their backs.

  8. Teen has life-threatening injuries after car-tree crashpublished at 07:06 British Summer Time 18 June 2018

    A teenage driver from Wadebridge has life-threatening head and chest injuries after a crash on the A38 near Liskeard.

    The car he was driving crashed into a tree, having left the road travelling westbound at Moorswater, at about 13:30 on Sunday.

    He is currently in the intensive care unit at Derriford Hospital. An 18-year-old girl from the Liskeard area who was his passenger is also at the hospital and in a stable condition.

    Anyone who witnessed the accident, which involved a green Ford Fiesta, is asked to contact the police on the 101 number.
