Mohammed Miah, 38, of The Strand, Exmouth, had raped a woman brought to a flat by two other men, Kabir Hussain, 41, and Marco Martins, 32.
Hussain had already raped the woman twice, and Martins had sexually assaulted her, in what Tim Evans, for the prosecution, described as "a gang assault".
Miah was arrested and then bailed on Christmas Day, but while the other two men were dealt with, he was then on the run for nearly a year before he was caught in Devon because of DNA evidence. He pleaded guilty to rape.
Quote MessageThis was a gang rape of a vulnerable woman for whom you showed utter contempt, and you must be severely punished for it."

A warning has gone out to parents and school children in Exeter after an 11-year-old girl was approached by two men in a van, police have said.
It happened between Cowick Lane and St Hill Close on Wednesday at about 08:00 while the girl was walking to school.
Officers added that the girl did manage to get into the building safely.
Letters handed out to parents of West Exe School said the two men in the white van involved were in their 40s.
One had a shaven head with a "mini mohican" hairstyle the other had a receding hairline.
Insp Simon Arliss said Devon and Cornwall Police have recently received other reports "where children have felt that they have been followed, approached or simply felt uneasy on their walk to school for a range of reasons".
"Public safety is our primary concern and we would encourage members of the public to continue to report suspicious incidents to police," he said.
"But we must stress that at this time there does not appear be an increased risk to your children, nor any new matters that are causing us concern from a policing point of view."

The 7m (23ft) sculpture, called Messenger, that will be installed outside the Theatre Royal in Plymouth is "weeks away from completion".
On Friday, the theatre said all the main components have been cast and the final stages of brazing are "well under way".
Craftsmen at the Welsh foundry where she is being created will spend the next few weeks attaching her head and right arm before finishing the final colouring.
She will then be broken down into four sections for the 270-mile journey to Plymouth from the foundry in Llanrhaeadr-Ym-Mochnant.
The potential dates for the installation are set to be unveiled next month but Messenger will be the "UK's largest cast bronze sculpture".
A project to build Plymouth's creative industries for Mayflower 400 has been awarded £3.5m from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
The iMayflower project aims to support makers, doers, artists and digital pioneers working towards the 400th anniversary of the ship's pioneering voyage in 2020.
A total of £750,000 has also been awarded directly to Mayflower 400 and £2.75m for new initiatives that could see more than 4,000 people offered training, business support and development opportunities in creative industries.
Quote MessageI'm really pleased about this news for the Mayflower programme as it very well reflects the national importance of the project. This announcement for funding to develop creative industries is extremely exciting. Plymouth has built a creative industry sector from scratch in a short number of years and this funding means we can harness the talent we have now and develop it for the future.

The minor injuries unit at Totnes Community Hospital has reopened after a 24-hour closure due to the discovery of Legionella bacteria in some taps and showers on the site.
Whilst no Legionella was detected within the unit area itself, the unit needed to temporarily close as it uses a lot of water and the entire site’s water system was being disinfected, Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust said.
This disinfection has now been completed.
Quote MessageWe apologise for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure, but protecting people’s health and safety was our first consideration. The Trust’s swift actions will prevent the possibility of infection.

The old fire station in Ivybridge is set to be demolished as part of plans to get traffic moving and improve air quality in the town.
Devon County Council is currently consulting on plans that would introduce double yellow lines on Western Road and would remove the current on-street parking provision on the B3213.
Western Road is classified as an Air Quality Management Area, external and studies have shown that the on-street parking on the road - between the A38 roundabout and Marjorie Kelly Way roundabout - causes traffic congestion and a build-up of nitrogen dioxide levels.
Devon County Council is holding a consultation looking at options for the relocation of the parking spaces.
Two options are being presented to the public, with the first being to relocate parking to all of the existing verge to the north of Western Road and south of Wayside - the old fire station area could be used to provide improvements for pedestrians.
The second option would use some of the verge between Western Road and Wayside for the relocated parking spaces as well as the old fire station site - allowing more green space to be retained.
An exhibition of the parking options will take place at Ivybridge Library on 22 January and the consultation continues until 3 March.
Quote MessageThis is an opportunity for people to have their say on these options to improve the air quality on Western Road and we're keen to hear people's feedback. The responses from the consultation will inform a preferred scheme option, and a report will go before the South Hams Highways and Traffic Orders Committee at a later date."
Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council
