An Australian singer who was due to perform at Boardmasters says he flew to the UK early - ahead of a number of other shows - to find the event was cancelled.

Pete Murray's next show is in Dublin on 6 September but he travelled from down under a month early to take to the stage in Newquay.

He said it was a "bit of a downer for me".

"I played it a few years ago and it was a great vibe," he said.

"I was really looking forward to it but unfortunately it will have to wait – maybe next year?"

Mr Murray will perform in Cornwall later in the year - at The Watering Hole in Perranporth on 12 September - which he calls a "saving grace" after the cancellation of Boardmasters.

Asked by the BBC whether festival-goers would receive refunds, Mr Topham said refund information would be available on the festival website and social media channels as soon as possible.

Pressed on the issue, he repeated the same answer.

Mr Topham said the priority now was to derig the festival site to mitigate the risk it posed.

"It is devastating for us and our team who have worked all year," he added.

It's dry and pretty warm in Newquay at the moment so why has Boardmasters been cancelled?

That's what thousands of disappointed ticket-holders are asking.

Well a band of heavy rain followed by heavy showers or thunderstorms has the potential to bring disruption on Friday - the day Wu-Tan Clan were due to headline.

The clouds are already gathering and rain will move northwards during Thursday night and Friday.

There is a small chance homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.

There is then a further Met Office yellow warning for wind valid from midnight on Saturday.

"My biggest problem is that families are put off coming this week because of Boardmasters.

"So not only have we lost the T-shirts and hats trade from the festival-goers, we won’t get the families buying wetsuits and surf boards either.”
