Plans for double yellow lines on a main road through a Plymouth housing estate have been halted after residents warned that getting rid of parked cars would make it more dangerous.
Plymouth City Council put forward plans for no-waiting restrictions on stretches of Frobisher Approach in the Manadon area.
But objectors warned that removing parked cars would allow traffic to speed up and increase the risk to pedestrians and road users.
The proposals have now been halted after a review, a report published on the council’s website has revealed.
The city council’s cabinet member for infrastructure Mark Coker reviewed the scheme and put it on hold because of negotiations with a developer over a proposed development at the St Peter’s Road end of Frobisher Approach.
The council said in a response to the consultation: "This will enable the impact of the new development to be properly assessed and for any appropriate further action to be considered at that time."
The cancellation of Thursday's crossing follows engine failure on the Scillonian III earlier.

The bishops of Truro and Exeter are among a group of senior Church of England clergy who have signed an open letter on the prospect of a no-deal Brexit, external.
The government has asked the Queen to suspend Parliament just days after MPs return to work in September - and only a few weeks before the Brexit deadline.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said a Queen's Speech would take place after the suspension, on 14 October, to outline his "very exciting agenda".
But it means the time MPs have to pass laws to stop a no-deal Brexit on 31 October would be cut.
The bishops' letter said there was a "need for national reconciliation".
It added that Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby has conditionally agreed to chair a Citizens Forum in Coventry and, "without prejudice for any particular outcome, we support this move to have all voices in the current Brexit debate heard".
But it added that those who had signed "also have particular concerns about the potential cost of a No Deal Brexit to those least resilient to economic shocks".
Mr Johnson has written to MPs to outline his plan, saying the government "will take the responsible approach of continuing its preparations for leaving the EU, with or without a deal".

Passengers on the Scillonian have been told they will be back in Penzance by 13:00.
The ferry broke down four miles off Land's End this morning, after technical failures with both engines.
It had left Penzance at 09:15, heading for St Mary's.
One engine has now been restarted and the Sennen lifeboat is escorting them back to the mainland.
Dr Alexander Lees is travelling to Scilly for a holiday and said: "About an hour into the journey the engines cut out.
"They initially said we were slowing down but basically the engines cut out. We were adrift so the captain kept us into the wind.
"We were stopped for about an hour and 15 minutes before they eventually got the starboard engine going and we are heading back into Penzance."
