Student votes have been seen as potential game-changers in some seats at the general election, but were they intending to vote?

We asked students at the University of Plymouth if they had registered to vote on 12 December.

Their views were mixed but those who said they would vote felt it was crucial to make their mark.

  11. Election 2019: Towns and cities least likely to votepublished at 22:57 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2019

    BBC Politics

When the UK goes to the polls, how much difference does where people live make on how likely they are to vote?

And how would it influence who they vote for?

Are people in cities less likely to vote?

In the 2017 general election, 67% of voters in large towns or cities went to the ballot box. But Exeter (pictured) was well above that, with the fifth-highest level in the country at 72%.

Where else has had the highest and lowest turnouts? Find out here.

    • Why have an election now?
    • How does voting work?

If you want answers to any of these questions, find out more from the BBC website's simple guide.

Despite the council signs there’s a distinctly theatrical feel to the election count in Exeter.

    Johnny O'Shea
    BBC News Online

Storm force winds combined with one of the lowest tides of the month was raising concerns that results in one of the most marginal seats in the country could be delayed.

The Isles of Scilly off Cornwall form part of the St Ives constituency and votes cannot be counted until the papers have been collected by boat from all the islands that have polling.

But there are concerns ballot papers cannot be brought to the largest island, St Mary's, because there may not be enough water for boats to access the islands of Bryher and Tresco.

The islands have an electorate of 1,660 and the seat was settled by 312 votes in 2017, when the Conservatives won.
