    It will be wet and windy for a time as the band of rain moves through. Drier, clearer and colder conditions will follow later in the night, with some patchy frost possible by dawn.

    Tomorrow will be chilly, breezy and sunny start to the day, but cloud increasing into the afternoon with the chance of some patchy rain into the evening.

  4. Betting shop cashier held at knife pointpublished at 17:45

    A betting shop cashier has been threatened with a knife whilst working at a Chelmsford bookmakers.

    Essex Police says two men approached William Hill in Broomfield Road on 19 November at around 22:50. 

    One man threatened the woman before taking off with a three figure sum of money. He is described as wearing a purple cap, a grey hooded top and black gloves and trousers.

  5. Fake ambulance drugs smuggler convictedpublished at 17:40

    A Dutch man has been found guilty over a £1.6bn drugs smuggling operation involving a fleet of fake ambulances.

    Leonardus Bijlsma, 55, was found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court for his part in smuggling class A drugs into the UK using Channel ferry crossings from Essex to East Yorkshire.

    Olof Schoon, 38, and 51-year-old Richard Engelsbel had already pleaded guilty. Sentencing will take place at a later date.

  10. Bishop's tribute to Nick Alexanderpublished at 16:35

    The Bishop of Chelmsford has paid tribute to Nick Alexander from Weeley who was killed in the Paris terror attacks two weeks ago. 

    Right Reverend Stephen Cottrell's comments came as an inquest heard how the 35-year-old died from gunshot wounds to the stomach and chest.

    A shop owner has told me how he chased a man thought to be armed with a gun out of his off-licence in Stock.

    Mark Stephens says he was told to hand over cash while on shift at The Four Vintners in Mill Road on Wednesday evening.

    "I wanted him out of the shop, I really swore at him, I said 'there is no way you're getting a penny' so I rushed round the counter and he legged it," Mr Stephens told me.

    Essex's five-time World Snooker champion, Ronnie O'Sullivan, has said it will take a "massive shift in his mindset" if he's to return to playing the sport.

    O'Sullivan has opted not to defend his title at one of the biggest events on the calendar, the UK Championships, currently taking place in York.

    In an interview with BBC Essex he said: "At the moment I have no desire to put the three to four hours' practice in."

    Congestion is back to Marks Farm roundabout in one direction and the B1024 Colne Road junction in the other.

    Essex Police is trying to trace the whereabouts of a vehicle involved in a crash on the A12 during yesterday's rush hour.

    The southbound carriageway near Cololchester at J26 was blocked for a short while just before 18:00.

    The force says it would like to speak to the driver of one of the cars involved, a blue VW or Vauxhall estate, which left the scene.

    The Met Office has issued ayellow warning of wind, externalfor Saturday morning, when gusts near the coast could reach 60mph (97kmph) in Essex and elsewhere in the region.

    Further strong winds are expected on Sunday. The Met Office is warning of disruption.

    Southend United manager Phil Brown doesn't agree with the rules that mean midfielder David Worrall can't play in tomorrow's League One match against Wigan.

    Worrall sustained a head injury on Tuesday and guidelines say he has to rest.

    "As a manager I just look at how hungry David is and see how much he wants to play", Brown told BBC Essex Sport.
