A teenager who rescued a swimmer caught in a riptide at Sea Palling has been given an award for his bravery.
David Castleman, from Loughton in Essex, was on holiday in Norfolk with his family in July, walking along the beach when someone ran up to them saying there were people in trouble.
David, 14, who'd passed his Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) Survive and Save gold award earlier this year, ran into the sea, reaching the stricken men who were face down in the water.
Turning them over, he realised the younger man still showed signs of life and began towing him to safety. Following CPR from passers-by and emergency services, the man was airlifted to hospital. The second man - Leszek Puchala, 52 - was later pronounced dead.
David was presented with a Certificate of Commendation for his brave actions by the RLSS UK, at the Loughton leisure centre where he learnt his lifesaving skills.
