One of the many people from Colchester that came to Harwich Road where a baby was attacked by a dog and died in hospital was Linda Clow, 65, who had lost her own unborn baby "in different circumstances" when she was 21-years-old.
She said she felt in her heart that she had to come and bring flowers and to say "sorry" to the family for their loss, she said with tears in her voice.
"Life is so hard to bring up children. I wanted to let them know we were thinking of them, but you must not leave animals with children and definitely not dogs," she said.
"I'll remember the day I lost my son for the rest of my life. When I heard about these children it hit me so hard I had to come and support them.
"They must be in a hell of a state, but I hope and pray they will get over it."

A retired senior crown prosecutor who dealt with many cases involving dangerous dogs claims pet dogs can have a dark side.
David Tucker has submitted evidence to select committees on his experience of cases.
His knowledge was sought by BBC Essex after a dog attacked three people in a Colchester family's home killing a four-month-old baby and injuring the boy's 22-month-old brother and mother.
Mr Tucker said an estimated 8.76m dogs are kept as pets in England and Wales and they can be wonderful companions. But not always.
"Over 200,000 people a year are attacked by dogs, and dogs with big jaws and teeth have the capacity to kill," he said.
"At least 23 have been killed by dogs in the UK since 2005 and 13 were children.
"Children and elderly people are particularly at risk. A child's face is that much closer to a dog's head than an adult's."
