    Hazel Harwood, 71, from Laindon, tells BBC Essex she doesn't like answering her phone anymore after she was targeted by fraudsters who took a £10,000 loan out in her name earlier this year.

    The scammers pretended to be from a phone company to obtain details used to raise the cash.

    A 19-year old man from Harlow has suffered serious injuries after his car hit a tree.

    The crash happened in Theydon Bois in the early hours of yesterday. 

    Essex Police said the man's in a stable condition in hospital.

  4. Animated film by Essex director a highlight in BBC One Christmas schedulepublished at 09:30

    A 90-minute film based on Raymond Briggs’ award-winning graphic novel Ethel & Ernest, that tells the personal and honest story about his parents’ lives, is to be shown on BBC One tonight.

    Directed by Roger Mainwood who lives near Colchester, the book was written by a Briggs, who also created the Snowman, as a tribute to his own parents. 

    "It's basically their story, all about their lives... it's a beautiful, simple story - very honest, quite poignant. Throughout it has Briggs' brilliant dry humour... you'll be laughing one minute and crying the next," said Mainwood.

    Ethel and Ernest can be seen tonight at 19:30 on BBC One (in the UK).

    Just a reminder that the Met Office has issued a "yellow" weather warning for fog across the whole of the east of England this morning.

    Drivers are being warned to take care on the roads, but it is expected to clear by midday.
