  3. Calls for Highway Code to reflect growing number of cyclistspublished at 09:28 British Summer Time 3 May 2017

    Orla Moore
    BBC Local Live

Greater road safety awareness needs to be incorporated in the Highway Code because of the rising numbers of people swapping four wheels for two, according to a report.

The study, by a cross-party group of politicians, claims our roads are too dangerous for cyclists - and the law needs to be tougher on inconsiderate motorists.

It comes just days after Essex cyclist Ian Jackson was pushed from his bike by a passenger in a car.

Mr Jackson, from Danbury, was taking part in a club time trial when the incident happened in Stapleford Abbotts last Friday.

He was treated for severe facial injuries. He told BBC Essex his helmet saved his life.

Put the sunglasses away. And grab a coat.

Any early brightness is likely to be short-lived as cloud thickens today. Expect the odd burst of showery rain, especially over Essex and Suffolk. It'll be windy too, especially along the coast. Feeling cool with highs of 11C (52F).

And it doesn't look like it's going to change much over the next couple of days.
