  1. Sister's plea to man last seen walking on A140published at 14:28 British Summer Time 2 May 2017

    The sister of a man who disappeared a month ago while walking on the A140 in south Norfolk has made an emotional appeal for his return.

    Nigel Kedar, from Clacton in Essex, had been visiting a friend in Norwich who'd deflated tyres on Mr Kedar's vehicle, concerned he'd had too much to drink. 

    He was last seen on 09:30 on Tuesday, 4 April, walking southbound through Dickleburgh near Diss towards Ipswich. 

    At a press conference at Norfolk Police headquarters in Wymondham today, his sister Diana Mays had this message for him.

    "Come home... you know you are loved... missed.  Anything you have done or are unhappy with, we can sort out." 

    She added that Nigel had missed his 14-year-old son's birthday, and he needed him.

    Specialist police officers, along with the National Police Air Service, are continuing their investigations into Mr Kedar's disappearance, but are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen him on or after 4 April. Any motorists who may have caught Nigel Kedar on their dashcams are also asked to come forward. 

    Nigel Kedar is described as white, 5ft 11ins (180cm) tall, of a large build with short hair. 

    He was wearing dark coloured trousers, with a lighter coloured long-sleeve shirt.

  2. Hit-and-run driver sought by police after boy, 8, injuredpublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 2 May 2017

    Police are appealing for the driver of a car which hit an eight-year-old boy to come forward.

    He suffered a cut on his head and his body was left bruised, but he escaped without any serious injuries, police said, external.

    The boy was crossing St John's Road in Clacton, near Sainsbury's. at 17:00 on 16 April when he was struck by car before it drove off.

    Officers also want any witnesses to contact them.

    A second neighbour who saw the blaze which trapped two young boys in a bungalow in Pitsea has spoken about the ferocity of the fire.

    Pete Beauchamp saw the fire in Beambridge from his garden and said he thought those inside had "no chance of getting out" as the flames started to reach the height of a nearby two-storey house.

    "All there was was black smoke bellowing up and the next minute the flames were going quite high," he said.

    The two boys, aged 10 and 13, are critically ill in hospitals in London and Basildon.

  6. Church offering 'support' to those affected by child porn vicar casepublished at 12:39 British Summer Time 2 May 2017

    The Diocese of Chelmsford has said it is "offering pastoral support" to those affected by the case of an Essex vicar convicted of child porn offences.

    Peter Low, 65, was spared jail this morning after he admitted three counts of possessing indecent images of children and one count of possessing prohibited images of children in March.

    Although Low's defence told the court he was now retired, the diocese has said the former vicar of United Benefice of Heybridge with Langford would still face a church inquiry.

    In a statement, it said: "We train people with safeguarding responsibilities in our parishes to understand their responsibilities and refer concerns appropriately. 

    "Anyone with any further information about this matter is asked to call Essex Police on 101.

    "We are offering pastoral support and are keeping all those affected by the situation in our prayers."

  7. Church underlines 'zero-tolerance' stance following child porn vicar sentencepublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 2 May 2017

    The Diocese of Chelmsford, external has released a statement following the sentencing of vicar Peter Low this morning:

    We take a zero-tolerance approach to child abuse. The crime of online child abuse was no less serious because the victims were unknown to the perpetrator and did not come from any of the parishes in which he had worked."

    The diocese said Low was suspended from his duties as soon as the church was told about the police investigation.

    Although Low resigned from his post, the diocese said he "remains suspended pending a streamlined disciplinary process which can now begin".

  8. Child porn vicar found with nearly 180 images on seized computerpublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 2 May 2017

    The Heybridge vicar who admitted possessing child abuse images was found with nearly 180 photos on his computer.

    Peter Low, 65, was discovered to have had nine "Category A" images (the most serious level), with 25 category B images, 21 category C images and 124 prohibited images of children after his computer was seized by police last year.

    Prosecutor Peter Gair said the images were of pre-pubescent children, "mainly males but also girls". 

    Low's internet history revealed that he had used the search terms "boy models", "eight-year-old boys", "schoolboy sex" and "nude children pictures". 

    Low, who has short grey hair and a beard and wore glasses, appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court wearing a dark blue suit, white shirt and red tie.

    He showed no reaction in court when he was sentenced.

    A vicar, who's been spared jail for possessing indecent images of children, was caught after police found he had written stories about child sex and posted them through neighbours' letterboxes when they investigated a burglary.

    Peter Low, 65, reported a burglary at his house to police when he returned from holiday last year, Chelmsford Crown Court heard. 

    Officers found nothing had been stolen, but discovered that handwriting on a "to do list" at Low's home matched that on the fantasy stories. 

    They then discovered vile images on Low's computer, said prosecutor Peter Gair.

    An Essex vicar has been spared jail after admitting possessing indecent images of children including some in the worst category.

    Peter Low, 65, was given a 36-month community order, ordered to go on a sex offender treatment programme, carry out 150 hours unpaid work and pay prosecution costs at Chelmsford Crown Court this morning.

    The Anglican vicar, of Crescent Road in Heybridge - who has already been suspended from all duties in the Heybridge and Langford parishes - has also been put on the sex offenders' register.

    A neighbour has been speaking about how he tried help rescue two young children trapped in a bungalow blaze.

    Greg Clarke was alerted to the fire at the terraced property in Beambridge, Pitsea, on Monday afternoon by a woman shouting.

    He rushed to help and broke windows to let the smoke escape, but there was still too much for him to enter.

    A 13-year-old boy was flown to Royal Hospital London, while a 10-year-old boy was taken to Basildon Hospital.

    Two Essex Police cordons remain in place at the scene, where officers remained overnight.

    The animated band will head to Brighton on 27 November, then head to Glasgow, before performing gigs in Manchester, Birmingham and London's O2 Arena.

    If everyone who made a cameo on the record (Noel Gallagher, Mavis Staples, Benjamin Clementine, De La Soul, Danny Brown etc etc) is actually going on the tour then they're going to need a bigger bus.

    A woman has died and a man was seriously hurt in a motorbike crash in Braintree.

    The victim, 41, was on the back of a bike and the man, 34, was riding the bike when it collided with a car in Bardfield Road on Sunday afternoon.

    The car driver and passenger suffered minor injuries.

    Greg Clarke said he smashed windows to try to let smoke escape from the property in Beambridge after he was alerted by a woman shouting that there two children inside, but said the smoke was still so thick he couldn't go in.

    "After about 12 minutes the fire brigade turned up," he said.

    "I stayed at the back of the house, guided them through with their torches because it was that thick - I’ve never seen darkness like it."

    A man has been talking about how he tried to smash his way into a bungalow to rescue two children from a fire.

    As we've reported, the blaze broke out at Beambridge, Pitsea, yesterday afternoon.

    Two young boys, one aged 10 and the other 13, are in critical condition.

    Greg Clarke said he was alerted by a woman shouting that there were two children inside the property.

    "I came running around the front, smashed the windows around the front then I heard her shouting from the other end of the building saying the baby's trapped in the bathroom. 

    "I came running back round, but the smoke was so thick to gain access."

    Firefighters rescued the boys. One was taken to Royal Hospital London and the other to Basildon Hospital.

    The cause of the fire is not yet known.
