The disappearance of Danielle and subsequent murder investigation was one of the biggest cases that Essex Police have dealt with, involving more than 750 officers and staff.

More than 1,000 garages were included in the "huge number" of searches that were carried out in 2001 and 2002, according to police.

"I do know that in 2001 that garage block had not been searched by officers. This week we will conduct a search of that area to see if that is the location of where Danielle's body has been hidden since 2001," said Assistant Chief Constable Steve Worron.

"The reasons why that garage block was not searched aren't clear to me at the moment, but we are working to understand that."

The garage block is close to where Danielle's uncle Stuart Campbell lived at the time of her disappearance.

Campbell was not a blood relative of Danielle's, but was married to Debbie Jones, Danielle's father's sister.

He was convicted of her kidnap and murder in 2002 at Chelmsford Crown Court and given a life sentence.

    Southend Airport

Andrew Tinkler, outgoing chief executive of the Stobart Group which owns the airport, has told shareholders: "A London airport that has technical capacity to handle 10m-plus passengers, 45 minutes from London, will over time be a very valuable asset for the group."

Mr Free said: "Far from a steady growth in passengers, the airport reached a peak of 1m in 2015 and numbers have fallen since then to about 900,000 a year.

"At the moment the airport is particularly quiet even if it is a holiday period. I know because I live alongside it."

A target of 10m plus passengers per year is just "pie in the sky", he added.

The body of his 15-year-old victim Danielle Jones has never been found, but police have re-opened the case and are searching a garage area in Thurrock.

The girl's father Tony, said after the lost appeal Campbell should reveal the whereabouts of the teenager's body, adding that her killer was a "monster".

Campbell's defence was based on an alibi that he was nowhere near the scene of his niece's disappearance.

In the appeal, his lawyers argued that the trial judge, Mr Justice McKinnon, should have excluded highly prejudicial evidence to the effect that Campbell had a fixation on young girls and took photographs of them.

They also urged the appeal court panel to rule that one of the jurors should have been discharged, because he lived next-door-but-one to a police officer involved in the case.

The appeal was dismissed after a hearing which lasted just over a day.
