Danielle Jones, 15 at the time, was last seen at around 08:00 on Monday, 18 June, 2001 when she left her home in East Tilbury to catch the bus to school.

Extensive searches were conducted in the bid to find her and despite the conviction of her uncle Stuart Campbell for murder in December 2002 her body has never been found.

Assistant Chief Constable Steve Worron, head of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: "Danielle's disappearance in 2001 and the subsequent murder investigation was one of the biggest cases Essex Police had dealt with at the time.

"Over the course of the investigation more than 750 police officers and staff worked tirelessly to find out for her family what happened to Danielle."

A garage block in Thurrock is being searched by police who have re-opened the case of a 15-year-old schoolgirl last seen in 2001.

Despite her body never being found, Danielle Jones's uncle Stuart Campbell was jailed for life in 2002 for her murder.

The block, in Stifford Clays, was not searched during the original investigation into her disappearance in 2001.

But since February officers from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate (SCD) have been examining "information received" and will now search an area between Goddard Road and Crammavill Street.

They have not at this time ruled out the possibility that Danielle's body could be buried there.

Essex Police said "non-specific information" was received about the garages area in 2001.

"We are working to ascertain why these were not searched as part of the original investigation," a force spokesman said.

Her uncle Stuart Campbell, 44, of Grays, denied the killing, but was jailed for life in December 2002 at Chelmsford Crown Court for her kidnap and murder.

The prosecution argued builder Campbell was obsessed with Danielle and had a fascination with teenage girls.

Danielle's body has never been found.

  5. Praise for staff after cyber attackpublished at 08:26 British Summer Time 15 May 2017

    Jon Wright
    BBC Radio Suffolk

The man in charge of both Ipswich and Colchester hospitals has been praising staff for their work protecting patient safety following Friday's massive cyber attack across the NHS.

    Nick Hulme

Nick Hulme (pictured on a previous occasion) said: "We've had to go through and look at every single individual computer.

"There are about 3,000 different PCs across the Colchester site.

"Each one has had to be individually assessed to see whether or not it's been infected and about half of the ones we've looked at so far have been infected.

"So they have to be taken away and rebuilt to make sure they are then protected from any future attack.

"A lot of the staff will be coming in and won't be able to access their machines."

About 25 non-urgent operations have been cancelled at Colchester, which serves some patients from Suffolk, but all other services are running.

Friday's global hacking attack which affected Colchester Hospital has hit patients faced with potentially serious illnesses.

Grant Gowers, from Clacton, who had a biopsy cancelled on Saturday, has told BBC Essex the people behind the cyber attacks on the NHS need to realise the human cost of their actions.

His procedure was cancelled because computer systems were shut down after the attack.

Broomfield in Chelmsford and Colchester hospitals were both affected here in Essex.

A stark warning has been issued by Professor Herb Lin from Stanford University in the USA who said further attacks are likely as staff return to their desks and switch on computers.
