Oxfordshire County Council has released a statement in response to the rubber duck protest in Steeple Aston.

In colourful scenes, the banana-coloured bunch was put on display in nuisance potholes outside the Old White Lion pub, on South Side.

A spokesman said: "While the issues raised don’t represent a safety problem we do recognise that the road there is in a particularly poor state.

"When we have determined the most appropriate method of repair we will be in touch with the parish council to let them know what we will do and when."

Rare photos of Debbie Harry and Blondie performing their first European gig have been shared by a Bournemouth music fan to mark 40 years since the concert.

Tony Pearson was in the small crowd at the Bournemouth Village Bowl watching the then little-known New York group on the night of 20 May 1977.

The photos show Debbie Harry performing with her band on their Television tour, before their UK chart success, playing early tracks including X Offender and In the Flesh.

A sixth person arrested following the alleged murder of executive Guy Hedger at his home in Dorset has been released pending further inquiries.

The 39-year-old Bournemouth man was detained yesterday on suspicion of conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary.

Mr Hedger was shot dead at his luxury property in Ashley near Ringwood on 30 April.

Three men have been charged with his murder and two other people are still under investigation by Dorset Police.

Police have released a CCTV image of a woman they want to speak to, external after a Help for Heroes charity tin was stolen in Oxford.

On 9 December last year, between 17:00 and 18:00, a woman entered Senli Cash and Go on Broad Street and requested the use of sellotape.

While wrapping a pen in sellotape, the woman picked up a Help for Heroes charity collection tin containing cash, put it in her handbag, and left the premises.

The most boring team ever! shouted one Southampton fan on Thursday when I asked his views on the season.

It seems a harsh assessment for a side which has reached a cup final, narrowly missed out on the Europa League knockout stages, and currently lies eighth in the Premier League.

But while the stats should give Claude Puel plenty of comfort at the end of his first season, he's still fighting for his job, with Southampton seemingly doing little to dampen the speculation.

If Saints fans feel underwhelmed, then the same probably applies to Stoke, who are at the bottom end of a mass of mediocrity in 14th.

But Mark Hughes does appear to have the backing, external to reshape the squad this summer. It's a job security of which Puel must be envious.

A community group has received planning permission to install two water turbines to produce hydropower on the River Thames in Reading.

Electricity generated at Caversham weir will be enough to power 100 homes and has the potential to prevent around 150 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

Reading Hydro said it was a "huge step forward" for the town and for the environment.

The group expects construction to begin in 2018.

During construction the weir will be adapted to make it a better home for wildlife by installing a new natural fish pass - also suited to eel and lamprey.

A drug dealer who took part in a £676,000 conspiracy to supply heroin and cocaine in Southampton has been ordered to pay back £5.

Tristan Pope, 22, of no fixed abode, who was jailed for eight years in January, was told by a judge at Southampton Crown Court he would face a further week in prison if he did not pay the sum within three months.

The main sense you get, walking around Bucklebury and the surrounding villages, is that they all want things to go back to normal.

The area has been thrust into the limelight, not because it wants to be, but because, simply, one of its residents married the future king.

I wanted to speak to the residents of the village, and get a flavour of what it was like to live in a place that has such a huge amount of media scrutiny, and is bracing itself media intrusion once again. (The irony of that statement is not lost on me).

But none of them wanted to talk. I walked into various establishments and asked a dozen people on the street, and asked for their thoughts.

I was given very polite, but slightly exasperated rejections.

One woman, who didn't be want to be interviewed, said that the village was "sick" of the whole affair, and that I "wasn't going to get anywhere". She was right.

An eatery in the village put up a sign outside telling the press that they "do not allow filming or interviews", and added that the media should respect the privacy of residents.

You get the sense they are waiting for this all to blow over.

Maybe though, after the youngest Middleton is married tomorrow, the press hordes may go away for good, and Bucklebury can return to normal.

Southampton chairman Ralph Krueger believes the club have pushed forward again in the Premier League this season.

Campaigners collect £13,000 in pledges to help save rare sunken bandstand on the Dorset coast.

The TV entertainer, who has lived in Bray, Berkshire, is currently on trial on four counts of alleged indecent assault against three teenagers between 1971 and 1983.

Mr Harris, who denies all charges, will attend the trial at Southwark Crown Court in person from Monday after appearing at previous hearings via video link.

Jurors have already been told that Harris, 87, was convicted and sentenced following a trial in 2014.

The current trial, which began on 15 May, is not sitting on Friday.

Rubber ducks in rain-filled potholes have become one village's weapon of choice in a road maintenance fight.

Once in a while, this sleepy, green and quintessentially British village becomes the centre of the universe.

The village is Bucklebury, in West Berkshire, and it is the home of the Middletons.

Thrown into the limelight because of the relationship between the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, it turns out the media's attention extends to members of the duchess's family too.

Pippa Middleton, the younger sister of Kate, is marrying financier James Matthews on Saturday.

There are hints though that the tranquility of this remote village is about to be disturbed.

There are a lot of journalists snooping around country lanes, and the presence of police hidden behind the tall bushes which, you would imagine, would be the scene of the reception.
