    It seems that romance is in the air in Oxfordshire - the number of marriages in the county rose by almost 10% in the past year.

    The county council's registration service figures showed 2,560 marriages were held in 2016/17 - up from 2,356 in 2015/16 and ahead of national trends.

    Part of a Portsmouth care home was evacuated last night when a corridor filled with thick smoke.

    St Vincent House in Southsea said six residents were moved outside when alarms sounded at about 00:30 BST but no-one was hurt.

    Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said the smoke was caused by a fire in an extractor fan in a cupboard.

    Sir Ben Ainslie hailed a "big win" for his BAR team as they got their America's Cup campaign in Bermuda back on track last night.

    The Portsmouth-based team dominated their clash with Sweden's Artemis, managed by Winchester's Iain Percy, leading from start to finish

    Britain now has four points in the first series of qualifiers and will be confident of reaching the challenger semi-finals which start on Sunday.

    A man's body has been found in the car park of the Asda superstore in Totton, Hampshire.

    A police cordon was set up shortly after 02:00 following the discovery of the body in the Maynard Road car park.

    Police said the death was currently being treated as unexplained.

    The store has opened as usual and there is access to the car park for customers.
