Fareham Borough Council says 51 companies have submitted a bid to build the new garden village of Welborne.

The authority says four will now go on to the next formal stage of the procurement process.

The village will include new homes and community spaces for leisure and recreation.

It will be based to the north of Fareham, and was one of 14 garden villages announced by the government in January.

A large leather trunk has been damaged in the fire at SeaCity Museum today.

A spokesperson for Southampton City Council said the fire broke out at lunchtime in the “Southampton’s Titanic Story” exhibition.

They said: "The building was evacuated safely and fire crews swiftly attended, ensuring the fire was extinguished rapidly.

"Our exhibitions team have assessed the damage, and have concluded that none of the artefacts were affected. The only item that appears to have been damaged was a large leather trunk, which was not part of our maritime collection."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but the museum will be open again on Thursday 8 June.

A man who broke into a care home in the middle of the night has been jailed for three years.

Ross Milburn was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court today after admitting burglary charges.

Milburn broke into the home, just off Boscombe Spa Road, in the early hours of 4 February this year.

He set off an alarm, fitted in each residents room. They found a resident asleep in the room where the alarm was coming from, but the wardrobe doors were open and the light was on.

When caught exiting another resident's room, he was wearing medical gloves and claimed he was there planting cameras in the rooms.

He was then removed from the property by staff, and arrested on 9 February.

Police Constable Chris Raspini, of Bournemouth CID, said: “It was not possible to establish whether anything was actually stolen but it is clear Milburn entered the premises with the intent to steal from these vulnerable people".

Four men and a teenage boy have appeared in court charged with the murder of a man who died following a fight in Oxford.

The brawl broke out at about 23:00 BST on Thursday in the Jourdain Road area of Blackbird Leys.

Christopher Lemonius, 27, was found at the scene with serious injuries and later died in hospital, police said.

All five have been remanded in custody and are due to appear at Oxford Crown Court on Wednesday.

A sixth man was earlier released without charge.

Southampton's SeaCity Museum have announced that their exhibitions are all fine following the fire earlier this afternoon.

A 27-year-old man died in hospital after a fight broke out in the Blackbird Leys area of Oxford.

CCTV images have been released by police after a couple had almost £57,000 stolen in a bank card scam.

The couple were called twice by a person claiming to be from their bank asking if they had received replacement bank cards, Thames Valley Police said.

On the second call in April, one of the victims, from Maidenhead, revealed their pin code.

The next day one of the fraudsters delivered two new bank cards and took the couple's original debit cards away.

We have been following firefighters dealing with a fire at the SeaCity Museum on Southampton all afternoon.

Here, a video shows smoke escaping from the building.

The museum is closed, but it is hoped that it will reopen as usual tomorrow.

Tony Deacon, group manager of Hampshire Fire and Rescue has described a "smoke-logged building" when crews arrived at a fire in Southampton's Sea City Museum earlier.

"Three applicances attended and the incident commander commited a team very early to fight the fire following confirmation from staff that the building was fully evacuated. There was fire found in a display area which was extinguished very quickly.

The museum remains closed for the rest of the day, but is hoped to open as usual on Wednesday.

Isle of Wight council has released video footage to reassure people that vehicles can successfully embark and disembark from the troubled Floating Bridge in Cowes

The chain ferry service was suspended in May after cars scraped their bumpers while disembarking and stranded passengers waded through water when it broke down on its first weekend in operation.

Campaigners say plans to redevelop three hotels on Dorset's Sandbanks peninsula will have a "devastating impact" on the area.

FJB Hotels wants to replace two of the hotels with new ones, and replace the third at the entrance to Poole Harbour with four blocks of flats.

The Protect Sandbanks Group, set up to oppose the plans, called the flats a "10-storey, faceless" development.

FJB says the flats are needed to fund the cost of the hotels.
