  16. Cowes Floating bridge suspended 'due to tide'published at 15:39 British Summer Time 7 June 2017
    Breaking

Cowes' troubled floating bridge has been suspended, less than 12 hours after restarting.

Video footage earlier today shows cars are still struggling to disembark without striking the ramp on to the slipway on its first morning back in use after being suspended on the orders of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

The council insists there is "nothing mechanically wrong" with the floating bridge and it will refloat as the tide returns around 19:00.

"While the crews continue to get used to the dimensions of the new bridge, and when tides turn rapidly, this is a known and normal operational risk," it said.

A passenger launch is in operation while car drivers face a 10-mile diversion via Newport.

Talks between Uruguayan businessman Juan Sartori and Oxford United owner Darryl Eales have broken up without a deal being reached, BBC Radio Oxford has been told.

We’ve been told by people close to the negotiations that quite detailed talks have been held between Mr Sartori and Mr Eales, but that the club owner simply does not want to sell.

For Mr Sartori I’m sure that will be a source of frustration, because he was also holding talks with Firoz Kassam about potentially owning, or renegotiating the lease at the Kassam stadium.

For Oxford United it’s going to be business as usual for the time being.
