  5. Redwood and Lee discuss election resultpublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 9 June 2017

    BBC South

Two Conservative MPs to hold onto their seats, rather comfortably it must be said, were Wokingham MP John Redwood and the MP for Bracknell, Phillip Lee.

Mr Lee received an extra 3,000 votes to retain his place in Parliament, while former Welsh Secretary Mr Redwood won his seat for the eighth time, winning an extra 1,477 seats despite winning a slightly smaller proportion of the vote.

"The country has said they want a Conservative government, run by Mrs May, because we are the biggest party", Mr Redwood said while speaking to the BBC's Andrew Neil.

Cue a quick retort from the presenter: "No they didn't".

That exchange, incidentally, has picked up quite a lot of traction on social media.

"I wouldn't be as upbeat as John", said Mr Lee "the idea we should not change our approach off the back of this is ludicrous".

"There were lots of very unhappy Conservative remain voters, and there were lots of young people turning up at voting stations in my patch".
