    Oxford West and Abingdon's newly-elected MP Layla Moran has told BBC Radio Oxford she went to last night's count without having prepared an acceptance speech.

    The Lib Dem ousted Conservative Nicola Blackwood by 816 votes - 26,252 to 25,440 - with an almost 15% swing away from the Tories.

    She told David Prever it had become clear after an hour of being at the count the contest was "much, much closer" than anticipated and "had to write her speech on the fly".

    Since her win, she's yet to speak to Lib Dem leader Tim Farron, " but then I have been sleeping for an hour, maybe he did call."

    What was she planning next? Ms Moran was asked.

    Well, she had yet to read a pack for newly-elected members - including a guide to London - which she was given at the count...

    Tan Dhesi has become the first turban-wearing Sikh to be elected to parliament.

    The new MP told the BBC he was "proud" of the achievement after notching up 34,170 votes to retain Slough for Labour.

    Former culture minister and newly reelected MP for Wantage Ed Vaizey has said Theresa May "frightened people" by "going on and on about no deal being better than a bad deal" over Brexit.

    He said: "There needs to be much more reassurance on key issues, like the rights of citezens and our trading relationship with Europe."
