    A decision will be made today on controversial changes being proposed for hospitals and healthcare in Dorset.

    Plans include making The Royal Bournemouth Hospital the main accident and emergency centre, new operating theatres for Poole and changes to community hospital beds.

    The local Clinical Commissioning Group will vote on whether to approve the plans this morning.

  2. Victim of M3 crash named as Nathan Sedgewickepublished at 08:58 British Summer Time 20 September 2017

    A man who died when he was hit by a car after being pulled over by police has been named.

    Hampshire police said Nathan Sedgewicke, 41, of Hempson Avenue, Slough, died following the incident on the M3 between junctions 12 and 13 in the early hours of 10 September.

    He was struck by a passing vehicle on the southbound carriageway and died on the way to hospital.

    Paying tribute, his family said: "Nathan was a beloved son and brother who put a smile on everyone’s face with his quick wit and humour.

    "He was extremely kind and will be sorely missed by everyone who loved and knew him."

    The case has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

    Prisoners have developed drug problems behind bars prompting a rise in violence at a jail, a report says.

    One in five inmates have a drug habit they did not have before their jail term began at HMP/YOI Portland, HM Inspectorate of Prisons (HMIP) found.

    It said violence was high against staff as well as inmates at the Dorset jail.

    The Prison Service said a new strategy had been put in place to tackle "behavioural issues" created by the use of psychoactive substances like Spice.

    Police are appealing for information about a woman who went missing at a beauty spot on the Dorset coast.

    Mary Harper, 56, from Surrey, was last seen on Tuesday morning as she walked near Durlston Castle with her husband and family members.

    Dorset Police said the group walked from Durlston Castle to Anvil Point lighthouse. As they returned, Mary opted to walk alone on the inland path but failed to arrive at Durlston Castle Tea Rooms.

    The police and helicopters and Dorset Search and Rescue Service have been involved in a search operation.

    Bournemouth beat Brighton for the second time in five days as Joshua King's extra-time goal sent the Cherries into the Carabao Cup fourth round.

    Eddie Howe's side beat the Seagulls 2-1 in the Premier League on Friday.

    Both sides made changes from that game and struggled to break each other down, although Bournemouth's Junior Stanislas hit the bar in the first half.

    But King finished off a neat exchange with Marc Pugh for the winner.

    Swansea scored a controversial second goal as they beat Reading to progress to the Carabao Cup fourth round.

    Reading's George Evans saw his pass hit the referee, allowing Leroy Fer to play Jordan Ayew in on goal, as the striker cut in from the left and curled home.

    Alfie Mawson scored the opener after finding space in the box from a Renato Sanches corner and flicking home.

    Reading's best chance fell to winger Adrian Popa, but the Romanian could not hit the target with his effort.

    A man has been arrested after another man found seriously injured in a city street died following an attack.

    The 39-year-old was discovered at the junction of Union Road and Radcliffe Road, Southampton, shortly before midnight on Monday.

    He was taken to hospital but later died. His next of kin have been informed.

    Hampshire Constabulary said a 42-year-old from the city has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

    Police are urging the occupants of two vehicles that passed through the area on the night to come forward.
