The 10-week closure of the main road between Reading and Henley-on-Thames has been extended for a further week due "unexpected difficulties" with the work.

Oxfordshire County Council shut the A4155 in August to repair "significant subsidence" on the carriageway between Playhatch and the Flowing Spring pub.

Nick Willson, who runs the Flowing Spring Pub, told BBC Radio Berkshire he is frustrated at the "lack of communication".

Adding "The whole thing is painful, the dates seem to change all the time."

Councillor David Bartholomew from Oxforshire County Council says the end date has always been an "estimate"

Explaining that "piling is a complicated process and you do get unexpected problems".

"It is very unusual for a road to be sliding down a hill" he added.

The cost of the work has increased by £160,000 to £1.2 million.

Mr Bartholomew says that the original programme has been enhanced to include an improved safety barrier and the resurfacing extended further north toward the Flowing Spring pub.

There will also be additional road marking and the verge has been tidied up.

The road is now estimated to reopen on Friday 10 November.
