    A rockfall on cliffs on the Jurassic Coast has been published on social media.

    Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre volunteer Pauline Dagnall captured large rocks tumbling before part of the cliff crumbled.

    The centre repeated its warning to walkers and fossil hunters to take care near cliffs.

    A bus company has refused to reveal what led to one of its double-deckers mounting the pavement and hitting a man walking down the street.

    Reading Buses said they were "not at liberty" to release full details of the incident on Gun Street, in which Simon Stone sustained minor injuries.

    The firm did however state the bus was "free of defects" on the day of the crash on 24 June this year.

    No arrests have been made in relation to the incident.

    A cat belonging to Banbury MP Victoria Prentis has been named winner of Purr Minister 2017, an award given out to the "most fabulous feline in Westminster" by Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.

    Midnight won the accolade after receiving 49% of a public vote.

    The "thrilled" MP said Midnight's "manifursto" included a top priority of "finding good homes for all the rescue cats currently living in temporary accommodation".

    An after-dark running event through the New Forest has been given the go-ahead despite criticism from conservation groups.

    The Forestry Commission has approved plans for the Maverick Silva Dark Series race to take place at the forest for the first time on 2 December.

    The Commoners Defence Association had said such commercial events would disrupt the forest's "tranquillity".

    Race organisers have asked runners to be "mindful of wildlife and livestock".

    A man who died after being found injured at a Tandoori restaurant, sparking a murder inquiry, suffered a fatal head injury, a post-mortem examination has revealed.

    Abbas Ali, 65, died in hospital after he was discovered at the Gandhi restaurant on Hayling Island, Hampshire, early on Saturday.

    Three men, aged 32, 34 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of murder.

    All three have since been released while inquiries continue.

    Police trying to trace a missing man from Oxford say he could be in the south of France or Switzerland.

    Bernard Ross, 51, was last seen on 18 October in Oxford.

    It is believed Mr Ross was in Marseille on 22 October and in Grasse on 31 October.

    He is described as 5ft 7in tall (1.70m), is fluent in French and is thought to be traveling around on a bicycle.

    The force said there is a possibility Mr Ross could have traveled to Switzerland and officers are appealing for information to help find him.

    A series of rare photographs of the Russian revolutionary leader Vladimir Lenin are to go on display in Oxford.

    They include an image of Lenin in a wig and make-up, which was used for an illegal ID card when he was in hiding.

    Another shows the Bolshevik leader with a cat at his home in Gorki, Moscow.

    They were released by the Society for Co-operation in Russian and Soviet Studies, external especially for the new exhibition at The North Wall Arts Centre in Oxford.

    An Army sergeant accused of trying to kill his wife by tampering with her parachute was "coercive" and "manipulative", a jury has been told.

    Emile Cilliers was accused of trying to make his wife feel guilty when she thought he was having an affair, writing of her fears on Facebook.

    The court heard the 37-year-old, of the Royal Army Physical Training Corps in Aldershot, was "hurt" by the suggestion he was unfaithful.

    Mr Cilliers denies attempting to murder Victoria Cilliers on 5 April 2015.

    Nurses are being recruited in India to work in Oxfordshire hospitals after a fall in applications from EU nationals.

    Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH) said the "marked reduction" made it "more important" to search further afield.

    The nurses were hired by a team led by OUH's associate chief nurse, Andrew Carter, which spent a week in Delhi, Mumbai and Cochin interviewing candidates.

    Shaun Lintern from the Health Service Journal told BBC Radio Oxford a wealthy country like the UK should be training its own nurses instead of "plundering" developing nations of their nurses.

    The government has recently said the number of training places for nurses will be increased by 25%.

    Energy provider SSE and the owner of Npower are in talks to merge their UK gas and electricity supply businesses.

    SSE, which is headquartered in Reading, said the new "independent company" would combine its UK household energy supply and services business with Npower owner Innogy's UK household and business energy supply business.

    It said the talks were ongoing and "well-advanced".

    However, it added: "No final decisions have been taken and no binding agreements regarding the terms of any combination have been entered into".

  14. Plans to merge Dorset councils win government approvalpublished at 14:11 Greenwich Mean Time 7 November 2017

    Plans to scrap Dorset's nine councils to create two unitary authorities have won conditional government approval.

    Six of the county's authorities voted to support the proposal but it was opposed by councillors in Christchurch, Purbeck and East Dorset.

    Secretary of State for Local Government Sajid Javid said he was "minded to" support the plan.

    The new structure, aimed at saving £108m over six years, would come into effect in April 2019.

    Under the plans, Dorset County Council would cease to exist and Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch would merge.

    The second council would be formed from East Dorset, North Dorset, Purbeck, Weymouth & Portland and West Dorset.

    A man has been arrested in connection with an attempted rape in which the victim's dog chased away the attacker.

    Police said a 36-year-old woman was walking in Winnersh, Berkshire, at 18:00 GMT on Thursday when her pet came to the rescue.

    The attack in a park behind Dunstans Drive prompted Thames Valley Police to put a scene watch in place the following day.

    A 28-year-old man from Bracknell was detained on suspicion of attempted rape on Monday night and remains in custody.

    Police say they are "extremely concerned" about a man who went missing in Kingham near Chipping Norton last night.

    Simon Blackham, 48, was last seen walking his dog at about 18:45 GMT on Station Road, heading out of the village, external.

    Sgt Kelly Collins, who is leading the search, said Mr Blackham's disappearance was "completely out of character".

    She added Mr Blackham was particularly keen on fishing, and is appealing for anyone who has seen him to get in touch.

    A CCTV image has been released of a man police want speak to in connection with an attempted robbery in Christchurch.

    A man with part of his face covered by a scarf demanded cash from staff at the Honeymoon Chinese takeaway in Lymington Road, Highliffe, at 19:55 GMT on 31 October before leaving empty handed.

    Dorset Police said no weapon was used and the man, described as white and in his 20s, left the scene on a bicycle.
