    A "suspicious object" discovered during construction work has caused Solent Airport to be closed, Fareham Borough Council says.

    The find was uncovered during work to install a new sub station for Swordfish Business Park.

    Two police officers have been taken to hospital after concerns were raised about a "chemical hazard" at a property in Oxford.

    They were making "a routine arrest" at 05:16 GMT on Elizabeth Jennings Way at the time.

    Five other officers were affected by the substance which caused some "minor irritation", Thames Valley Police said.

    A 34-year-old man from Oxford has been arrested on suspicion of harassment without injury.

    A breeder from Fareham who's lost dozens of rabbits to disease has urged people to vaccinate their pets.

    Jill Andrews says it was devastating to watch more than 50 of their bunnies die from RHD2 in the space of 21 days.

    It's a highly infectious and fatal disease which affects wild and domestic rabbits.

    Lucy Atkinson, a senior veterinary surgeon, says it is a containable through vaccination but warned it would spread throughout the UK without action.

    Dorset Police has decorated one of its cars with red poppies in support of the Royal British Legion poppy appeal, as it did last year.

    It will be taking part in the Weymouth Remembrance Sunday parade along the seafront, before going on patrol with the temporary design for three weeks.

    Assistant Chief Constable Julie Fielding, said: "We hope that the car will encourage people to go out and buy a poppy ahead of this year’s Remembrance Day and actively engage with the Royal British Legion’s campaign."

    Ian Jarvis, the charity's community fundraiser for Dorset, said: "We’re delighted that Dorset Police has once again chosen to support the Legion in this very proud and visual way."

    About 60 people are understood to have been evacuated over fears of a "potential chemical hazard" in north Oxford.

    Police were "conducting a routine arrest" on Elizabeth Jennings Way at 05:16 GMT when they were informed of the threat.

    County councillor John Howson said he was told "a number of police officers" received medical treatment as a precaution.

    No injuries to the public had been reported

    Some sad news this morning, the former BBC Radio Oxford presenter Bill Heine has told the Oxford Mail he has terminal cancer., external

    The 72-year-old says he was diagnosed with leukemia in July and given 18-months to live.

    "I feel like a cricket ball that's just been hit. I want everybody to know, though", he told the paper.

    Milan Maersk is one of the largest vessels of its type in the world with a capacity for 20,568 containers.

    The 399m-long ship is one of 11 ultra-large container vessels which are expected to be in service by the end of 2018.

    A cordon remains in place at a north Oxford street where residents have been told to leave their homes over fears of a chemical hazard.

    Police were at the scene carrying out an arrest at 05:16 GMT when they were informed of a potential hazard.

    County councillor John Howson said he understood a block of flats had been evacuated.

    He was told some of the affected residents are staying on the estate with friends and small number had gone to St Hugh's, an Oxford University college.

    "It's now a crime scene and we will have to wait and see what the police tell us", he added.

    About 200 homes are still without water in the Twyford area of Berkshire.

    The problem is now only affecting homes on the higher land near Twyford, a Thames Water spokesman has said.

    The pressure of water is not reaching the levels they had hoped in those areas, they explained.

    Work continues to re-pressure the system, with the hope to get supplies back on today.

    A council leader is being investigated by police over an allegation he participated in a vote to close a public toilet, despite having an interest in the buildings next door.

    Weymouth and Portland councillor Jeff Cant took part in a council meeting and vote to shut the building in Weymouth in September last year.

    His company owns two buildings next door which each have business space with flats above.

    Mr Cant denies any wrongdoing.

    About 1,000 homes near Twyford, Berkshire, are without water this morning, 24 hours after supplies were disconnected because of a faulty pump.

    Thames Water says most were reconnected last night but customers near Knowl Hill still have no supply this morning.

    A secondary pump is being installed in the area to boost water flow.

    An update is expected at 10:00 GMT.

    Residents in an Oxford street have been evacuated over fears of a chemical leak.

    Thames Valley Police says officers were conducting a routine arrest at a property in Elizabeth Jennings Way at 05:16 GMT when they were "made aware by the occupants of a potential chemical hazard and precautions were taken as a result".

    The property was evacuated and there are no reports of any members of the public being injured.

    Fire and ambulance services are also in attendance.

    A plan to build up to 2,000 homes near Newbury has been refused planning permission.

    West Berkshire Council said no to the application for land at Sandleford Park off Monks Land , externalbecause of uncertainty about the impact on roads, schools, and other infrastructure.

    But the area will remain a chosen site for development as part of the housing strategy for the district, the council said.

    Bloor Homes was behind the application which included two primary schools and a new county park.

    Employees of Southern Railway and South Western Railway are continuing their 48-hour strike action.

    Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union walked on Wednesday as part of a dispute over driver-only operated (DOO) trains.

    South Western Railway, which took over the franchise from South West Trains in August, plans to run more than 60% of services, and has published a contingency timetable, external.

    Meanwhile, Southern has said services on most of its routes would operate normally, although there would be some alterations, external.
