St George's Chapel is shrouded in darkness tonight, the 14th century gothic building shielded by the walls of Windsor Castle.

However, even on a cold and dark night, there is a real atmosphere of warmth and light in Windsor with the knowledge that this town will be the centre of the world in six months' time.

    Windsor Castle

I spoke to a shop worker (whose tills will surely be ringing relentlessly in the build up to the big day), who said the day would be like a "fairytale" for Windsor and the country as a whole.

I also ran into a woman called Elaine who used to volunteer in the chapel for a number of years, who said St George's offered a much more intimate experience for an occasion like this.

"We just think ourselves really lucky," she said. "It's going to be an incredible atmosphere on the day."

Oxford University undergraduates must live within six miles of Carfax tower, and some said they were worried about a lack of adequate housing in the city centre.

Owners of a hotel immortalised in a Thomas Hardy novel have blamed ongoing delays to its refurbishment on council planning hold-ups.

The Kings Arms in Dorchester had been due to open in spring 2017 but owner Draco now says revamp work will not begin until 2018.

They were released at Poole Harbour by Dorset Wildlife Trust and the RSPCA.
